‘I could not think of a man more worthy’: Elon Musk says Zohran Mamdani is the ‘future of the Democratic Party’
The chances of a MAGA-leaning and Republican supporting individual showering words of praise on a Democrat are less but never zero. In a surprising turn of events, Trump’s long-time supporter and former (subject to discussions) friend Elon Musk is calling New York mayoral race frontrunner Zohran Mamdani the “future of the Democratic Party.” Yes, you read that right. That actually happened in real time.
On October 27, Elon Musk made an unexpected post on X (formerly Twitter), where he shared a video of Governor Kathy Hochul endorsing Zohran Mamdani, who was also briefly featured towards the end of the video. In the video, Hochul urges the crowd to vote for Mamdani and “take back America.” Musk captioned that video, stating, “Zohran is the future of the Democratic Party.”
Multiple people who saw Musk’s post agreed with him in his support for Zohran Mamdani. One person wrote:
“I could not think of a man more worthy of leading NYC.”
Another wrote:
“Governor Hochul’s passionate endorsement of Zohran Mamdani isn’t just a win for NYC, it’s a beacon of hope for reclaiming America’s progressive soul with bold, inclusive leadership.”
However, not everyone was supportive. Many Trump supporters criticised Mamdani, labelling him a radical leftist (a term often used by Republicans to describe him and his ideologies) and warning about the dangers of electing someone like him as mayor of New York City. Unsurprisingly, several comments reeked of Islamophobia, calling him a terrorist. One individual even reminded Elon Musk of Mamdani’s past criticisms of Tesla, the company of which he is the CEO.
Amidst these discussions, some even questioned whether Musk was being serious in his claim that Mamdani represents the future of the Democratic Party or if his comment was intended to be taunting. Regardless of his goal, it’s undeniable that his remarks are highly controversial, especially given the current heated state of American politics.
