Homeland Security claims an ICE officer fired ‘defensive shots’ to protect himself and his co-workers, but this video tells a different story

On January 7, 2026, the Department of Homeland Security shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) detailing an incident in Minnesota involving ICE agents. They explained that the agent who shot an individual at the scene (videos of which are available on the internet) and killed them did so in self-defence, firing “defensive shots” that resulted in the death of the “perpetrator” and safeguarded the agent and his fellow officers from further danger.
No one is buying the Department of Homeland Security’s misleading statements about the tragic shooting of a 37-year-old woman in Minnesota that took place on Wednesday. While the department is trying to portray the woman as a perpetrator, claiming she attempted to run over an officer, which led him to shoot at her, several videos circulating on social media depict a completely different story than what they want the public to believe. The videos indicate that after the agents confronted the woman, she tried to escape, and while making a sharp right turn, an officer stepped forward and shot at her multiple times through her open car window and then once through the windshield. Shortly after, she lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a parked car on the left side of the road. A witness who recorded the incident said in her video that after being shot and driving a distance, the woman left a trail of blood on the snow. This individual also partially captured the scene of the woman who had been shot, showing her hanging lifelessly from her open car door. The person filming also attempted to help the injured woman, but as seen in the video, faced resistance from an ICE agent who prevented her from assisting.
Another video of the same incident, which is also currently circulating online, reveals that a medical professional had offered to check the pulse of the woman who had been shot, but an ICE agent stopped him, stating that their designated medical professionals were on their way to the scene. Many have criticised this, as under no circumstances would an officer who truly cares for the people of his country deny emergency first aid unless they lack humanity. This act demonstrates that they are indifferent to the fate of the individual and are more focused on the number of kills they can achieve to showcase as their victory badges.
Many people have spoken up about the incident, including Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
