HOA Comes After Man for Being Too Good at Lawn Maintenance
HOAs are really getting out of control.

According to the Foundation for Community Association Research, approximately one-third of housing in the U.S. is part of a community association. Platinum Home Builders & Design, Inc. surveyed homeowners in February 2026 to find out how they really feel about being part of homeowner associations. The results weren’t surprising — 37% of those surveyed regretted buying a home in an HOA community, 39% said they would avoid HOAs in the future, and 64% of respondents stated that HOAs caused stress in their everyday lives.
American homeowners aren’t huge fans of the associations, and for good reason, as they govern a number of things one can do around the home. Usually problems arise with issues like solar panels or an unkempt yard, but, per BroBible, one man ran into trouble with his HOA because he was too good at lawn maintenance.
The Crime of Excelling
TikTok lawn content creator thelawnglowup (@thelawnglowup) posted a video in June 2026 and shared a letter he got from his HOA. The video went viral as other TikTok users reacted in disbelief to his alleged violation — having a yard that looked so good it made his neighbors’ lawns look worse by comparison.
He started his video with the words, “Buckle up today cause this is gonna get good,” before breaking out a printed formal HOA violation notice. According to the letter, he had violated Section 8.4 B: “Maintaining lawn quality beyond reasonable neighborhood expectations.”
The actual description of the alleged violation stated, “Lawn stripes visible from excessive distance. Striping patterns appear professionally maintained. Neighboring lawns adversely affected by comparison.”
The creator’s reply to the charge? “Well, I mean, I do take pride in it.” The man also disputed that his neighbors’ yards looked worse than his and said all the lawns were well maintained.
The HOA’s Remedy
What was the HOA’s solution to his overly perfect lawn? According to thelawnglowup’s video, the HOA demanded that he “allow visible wheel marks on the lawn,” “mow in random directions,” and “skip at least one mowing cycle a week.” Additionally, the notice told him to stop posting photos of his lawn to social media, and even threatened to restrict his use of the reel mower.
To all of that, he simply replied that it was never gonna happen.
The story doesn’t end there, though. Thelawngoup creator has been documenting the ongoing HOA saga since the original video. In a video dated August 11, 2026, he explained that new elections for the HOA board were coming up, and that someone had asked if he’d be willing to be nominated as board president. He wanted everyone’s opinion. His followers agreed he should run.
Someone stated, “Accept the nomination and then if you win, dissolve the HOA. From the rest of the world: HOAs are the dumbest thing ever and should be illegal.”
“A HOA with a normal person as President…. What a novel idea. This may change the whole HOA concept,” another user said.
One person simply added, “With great power comes great responsibility.”
