‘He wants to control it and make a profit out of’: Donald Trump is waging a war on drug traffickers, but pardoned the former President of Honduras

Over the last couple of months, President Donald Trump has been focused on tackling drug trafficking in the United States, taking extreme measures to achieve this goal.
If you are someone who keeps up with the news, you might be aware of the controversy surrounding Pete Hegseth, the United States Secretary of War, and the incident in the Caribbean Sea. If you’re not, here’s a brief overview: In the first week of September this year, under Donald Trump’s orders, Pete Hegseth launched several attacks on boats in the Caribbean Sea. During one of these attacks on a Venezuelan boat on September 2nd, Hegseth allegedly ordered a second strike on a boat that had two survivors. This act has been deemed unlawful and has been compared to war crimes. After the incident was exposed, Hegseth denied any involvement, dismissing rumours about the second strike; however, at the time of the strikes, he appeared on various news channels, proudly discussing his decision-making and claiming he was watching everything unfold live.
Not only is Pete Hegseth denying his involvement in the double strikes in the Caribbean Sea, but Donald Trump is also distancing himself from the events. In a recent statement to reporters, Trump refused to acknowledge Hegseth’s role in the double strikes, while also carefully stating that if he were in Hegseth’s shoes, he wouldn’t have ordered a second strike on a boat with survivors. Later, the White House, through Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, attempted to shift the blame onto Admiral Bradley, suggesting he was the one in charge during the attacks, thus deflecting responsibility from both Hegseth and Trump.
In the midst of all this and the Trump administration’s alleged “war on drugs,” people have been noting a hypocritical side of Donald Trump and his administration. They are highlighting how, recently, Trump pardoned the former President of Honduras, Juan Orlando Hernández, who was behind bars for conspiring to import over 400 tons of cocaine into the United States, claiming that his conviction was a “Biden setup.” There is a perception that Trump is benefiting from Hernández’s freedom and that he wishes to get drugs into the United States but does not want them here unless he is profiting from them. On social media platforms, such as X (formerly Twitter), conversations surrounding this topic are especially concentrated, with many people emphasising Trump’s double standards.
