Oh, the Nostalgia: The Goosebumps Movie Gets a Plot, Maybe a Star

Last time we heard about the Goosebumps movie Rob Letterman had been chosen to direct. This time around we have a possible star: Jack Black. But which Goosebumps character will Black be playing? Appease your inner child and hit the jump to find out.

According to “an individual familiar with the script” (So, on the one hand: Grain of salt. On the other: I can’t imagine the plot to the Goosebumps movie would be that closely guarded a secret), the character Black is in negotiations to play is “a Stine-like author whose scary characters literally leap off the page, forcing him to hide from his own creepy creations.”

That’s… kind of neat, actually? Assuming those “creepy creations” are monsters from various Goosebumps books, it sounds like a cool way to integrate elements from a bunch of different stories into one movie. Kind of like the elevator scene and its aftermath from The Cabin in the Woods, but for kids. As long as Cuddles the Hamster is there, I tentatively approve.

Black and Letterman previously collaborated on the critically reviled Gulliver’s Travels, so that’s not heartening, but I still like Black. And I was always more a Fear Street girl, so I’m not hugely invested anyway. Is it naive of me to think this very well may be OK?
