Finally, Glen Powell & J.J. Abrams’ Movie Has a Title and Release Date

For nearly two years, the prospect of a collab between Glen Powell and writer-director J.J. Abrams has been on the horizon and making fans incredibly curious.
What genre would it be? How will Abrams flex his directing muscles in his first film since 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker? Will Powell give the world any new, delightfully weird impressions? As it turns out, we don’t have to wait long to find out the answers to those questions.
On Friday, Warner Bros. Pictures announced a slew of new theatrical release dates for 2026 and 2027. Up first is Abrams’ movie, which is now confirmed to be titled The Great Beyond, and will debut in theaters on November 13th. The cast of the film includes Powell, Jenna Ortega, Emma Mackey, Sophie Okonedo, Merritt Wever and Samuel L. Jackson. Plot details surrounding the film are currently being kept under wraps.
Other release dates confirmed by the studio include Panic Carefully, a new paranoid thriller from Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail. (Who, coincidentally, is also set to work with Powell on an upcoming sci-fi movie titled Tesseract.) Panic Carefully will debut on February 26, 2027, with a cast that includes Julia Roberts, Eddie Redmayne, Brian Tyree Henry, Ben Chaplin, Aidan Gillen, Joe Alwyn, Naledi Murray and Elizabeth Olsen.
After that will be a currently-untitled sci-fi movie directed by Deadpool‘s Tim Miller and starring Keanu Reeves, which is set to debut at some point in the summer of 2027. Rounding out the news is a release date for The Conjuring: First Communion, which will debut on September 10, 2027. The newest entry in the franchise, which recently broke records with the release of The Conjuring: Last Rites this past fall, will be directed by Rodrigue Huart, with James Wan and Peter Safran producing.
