Woman decides to wear her glasses on wedding day. Then the internet comes for her: ‘Contact lenses are right there’

A woman comes across a video of a beautiful bride on her TikTok For You Page (FYP) and opens the comments section. She can’t believe the amount of criticism the bride received for sporting her usual glasses, and makes her own video, sparking discussion.
In a video with over 694,000 views, TikToker Grace McGuire (@mrsgracemcguire) posts a selfie video, looking visibly annoyed. She explains the reason for her expression in on-screen text.
“Just watched a bride go viral because she wore glasses to her own wedding and people said it ruined her look…” the text reads. “VISUAL aids so she could see her own wedding day spoilt her look? Are we OK? I’m worried about humanity.”
Who is the viral bride?
In the comments, McGuire confirms that the viral bride is the TikToker Shappilyeverafter (@shappilyeverafter2024).
The bride posted a slideshow of pictures from her wedding, which garnered over 4.8 million views. She sports bold, round frames and responds to a viewer who questioned her choice under a previous video.
The TikToker explains that she chose to keep her glasses on “mostly so [she] could see.”
However, some particularly picky viewers still critique the look.
“Why didnt you wear contacts,” one asks.
“I would have gotten contacts or laser?” another writes.
“If I wore glasses tho I would buy new frames and make them all bridal :) not saying you should’ve done that but for me,” a third suggests.
The bride posts another video replying to some of the criticism. She says she wasn’t initially offended by viewers who genuinely wondered what made her decide to keep her glasses on.
However, she shuts down those who insert their opinion, sharing that she feels “the most me” when she has her glasses on.
“I wanted to wear them on my day,” she says. “I didn’t wear glasses to my prom when I was 16, and I really regret not wearing them. So, I knew for my wedding day I wanted to wear them.”
Should you wear glasses on your wedding day?
Despite the heated debate in the comments of Shappilyeverafter’s video, McGuire’s viewers share more supportive takes on the bride’s glasses. Many share their own reasons for wearing their glasses, with pictures from the big day.
“I wouldn’t have felt like myself if i had worn contacts,” one shares.
Another viewer writes, “Wore mine. A few did ask me if I was gonna wear contacts… I have never worn contacts! My husband said I only know you with glasses, why would you not wear them!!”
“I had so many people ask if I wanted to wear mine. I have worn glasses since 1st grade. And, get this, I CANT SEE WITHOUT THEM. Lol I did get white ones though,” a third adds with pictures of her wedding outfit.
Others agree that every bride’s look is a personal choice, whether the glasses are a part of the big day or not.
“Ruined her look tho?? That is her look literally,” a viewer points out.
A second comments, “Also, if she always wears her glasses, then its part of her look.”
