Finding something inedible inside food you’ve already been eating and enjoying is deeply unsettling.

That’s what happened to one Georgia woman after she opened a bag of Miss Vickie’s chips, a brand she says she eats regularly.

In a TikTok video that’s garnered more than 164,600 views, TikTok creator @lolababe23 documents what she believes is baked directly into the chips, prompting her to check every other bag in the variety pack.

What Was Inside the Miss Vickie’s Chips?

In a previous video, @lolababe23 made the unsettling discovery. The Miss Vickies Salt and Vinegar chips she’s been “chomping down,” as she puts it, are covered in dead ants.

At the start of the investigative video, she tells viewers she wants to be sure the ants didn’t come from her home before making any kind of complaint.

“OK y’all, I do wanna make sure before I go in with my complaint,” she says as she approaches the Miss Vickie’s variety box.

She digs through the box carefully, showing the inside and pointing out that nothing appears to be crawling around. “As you can see, no ants are in the box,” she says, pausing before pulling out a bag. “So we got… we got one. One ant. Right there.”

Holding a bag up, she reminds viewers how much she loves the brand. “These my favorite chips. These my favorite Miss Vickie’s,” she says.

She then opens a full bag and pours the contents onto a styrofoam plate. Several ants are visible among the chips, and none of them appear to be moving. “Miss Vickie,” she says, stopping herself mid-sentence before adding, “I’m disgusted with you, baby.”

Has This Happened Before?

This is not the first time people have reported something similar involving Miss Vickie’s chips.

Back in 2016, an Oregon college student had the exact same experience. She shared that she found her Miss Vickie’s salt and vinegar chips covered in dead ants after opening the bag. Three years ago, another user posted on r/mildlyinfuriating, writing, “Ants found a box of individually packed chips. Got to 1/4 of the box. Their favourite flavour is salt and vinegar apparently.”

That Reddit user also shared photos of the packaging, showing tiny holes in the bags that appeared large enough for ants to squeeze through.

While they didn’t include photos of the chips themselves, the damage to the packaging raised similar questions about when and where contamination might have occurred.

How Could This Happen?

Studies on household ants and food packaging suggest that the issue may not start at the factory at all.

Research on plastic packaging shows that some ants can chew through material as thin as 0.06 millimeters, depending on the type of plastic used.

That means the chips could have left production completely ant-free, only to become infested later while sitting in a warehouse, on a delivery truck, or even during storage at a retailer.

Similar situations have been reported with other chip brands, where insects gained access after the packaging had already been sealed.

The Mary Sue reached out to Miss Vickie’s via their parent company, PepsiCo, to find out what might have gone wrong and whether the brand is investigating the situation.
