Georgia man gets tasered and punched during marijuana arrest. Days later, he exacts revenge and kills the cop

A man in Warm Springs, Georgia, was pulled over by police after an officer suspected him of being in possession of marijuana. The arrest turned into a scuffle when the officer supposedly tasered and punched the suspect, who days later allegedly sought out the same officer and fatally shot him.

On Aug. 27 at around 10:40pm, Warm Springs Police Department Sgt. Chris Fisher reportedly pulled over Jimmy Steverson at a Marathon Fuel gas station when he suspected Steverson was using marijuana after allegedly noticing the smell coming from Steverson’s truck, per Atlanta Black Star. Steverson initially denied being in possession of marijuana, but Fisher reportedly informed Steverson he intended to search his truck and his person.

Steverson asked the officer whether he was being targeted or if Fisher recognized him. The arrest later turned into a physical confrontation when Fisher attempted to detain Steverson, with the officer allegedly punching and tasering Steverson near the ear.

Georgia officer and suspect involved in altercation

CCTV footage obtained by 11Alive captured part of the altercation between Fisher and Steverson at the Marathon Fuel gas station. At 10:43pm, Fisher was seen talking to Steverson, who was in his black truck. The footage cuts to Steverson outside his vehicle and sitting on the hood of Fisher’s patrol car. Seconds later, Fisher appeared to push Steverson back down onto the hood during the dispute.

The footage cuts again to another scene, this time of Fisher tackling Steverson to the ground. According to Steverson’s family, Fisher allegedly pulled out his Taser and tased Steverson while his back was turned. They claimed Steverson also had his arm raised in surrender at the time the Taser was deployed before he was handcuffed. The footage, however, does not show Fisher’s initial approach or an uninterrupted view of the entire confrontation.

Officers later arrived at the scene, and Fisher reportedly admitted to using physical force on Steverson. “He’s got a Taser in his ear. A Taser prong in his ear. I punched him in the face a couple [of] times,” Fisher told officers. However, he claimed that Steverson resisted and tried punching him during the arrest, which Steverson’s family later confirmed.

Police reportedly found marijuana and firearms inside Steverson’s truck. He was later charged with possession of a firearm during an attempted crime, possession of marijuana, and obstruction of justice. Steverson was released on a $10,000 bond.

Both officer and suspect were allegedly gunned down

The incident, however, seemingly left a mark on Steverson. Five days after their initial encounter, Fisher was reportedly sitting in his patrol car, parked in Meriwether Country Inn’s parking lot after an unrelated traffic stop.

Steverson allegedly pulled up next to Fisher’s patrol car before firing multiple shots directed at him at around 11:57pm on Sept. 1, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) said. Fisher was declared dead on the scene.

Nearly 12 hours later, Steverson was identified as the passenger of a car during a traffic stop in Anderson, South Carolina. Anderson County Sheriff’s Office officers discovered Steverson had what they believed was a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was immediately transported to a local hospital, but was later declared deceased.

The GBI said it is conducting an independent investigation into the incident and has yet to determine the motive. Meanwhile, Fisher joined the Warm Springs Police Department in May of this year and was later promoted to Sergeant in July.
