Gavin Newsom calls out Trump’s wartime AI social media behaviour, says it’s ‘madness’
California Governor Gavin Newsom is undoubtedly one of Donald Trump’s strongest critics. As a result, people can now be confident that if given the chance, Newsom would go to great lengths to bring Trump down. There has not been a topic on which Newsom has not criticised Trump since the latter became President of the United States for a second term last year. It seems he is doing it again as people cheer from afar.
On March 19, 2026, Gavin Newsom shared a video on X (formerly Twitter) that appears to be from an event where he visited to promote his memoir, ” Young Man in a Hurry: A Memoir of Discovery. “ While he attended the event to discuss his book at length, he also shifted focus several times to other topics, most notably Donald Trump. In the video he shared on X, Newsom calls Trump a “dumbass” and lists the damage he has caused to America since becoming president, including issues with alliances and tariffs. Newsom also criticised Trump for his social media activity, especially regarding his actions since the US started a war with Iran.

Gavin Newsom is one of many who have opposed Donald Trump’s Iran plans from the beginning. With every development in the war, Newsom has vocally shared his opinions, calling out Trump for fighting an unnecessary war that costs America and its people billions of dollars. However, as expected, Trump paid no heed to the criticism. He hasn’t been listening to his own people who are turning against him on the Iran issue, so expecting a change of heart after hearing Newsom is unlikely, but the matter should still be highlighted.
Anyway, speaking about Trump’s insensitivity regarding the US’s war on Iran and the US soldier deaths, Newsom, during the mentioned event, said, “We’re in the middle of a war. 13 human beings, American soldiers, died. 140 maimed… And he’s out there with video game images, AI-generated images. This is madness.”

In the video uploaded to his X account, Gavin Newsom also discussed being called Gavin Newscum by President Donald Trump and emphasised how outrageous it was for Trump to refer to him that way, given that he is an eighty-year-old in one of the most powerful positions in the United States and the world.
Newsom then revealed that another person used to call him Newscum, but it was an eight-year-old who was his bully, possibly during his youth. While Newsom didn’t explicitly state this, his comments likely draw parallels between eighty-year-old Trump and his eight-year-old bully, who exhibits similar behaviour.
