Former Secretary of State accuses Trump of folding under the same Israeli pressure that Obama reportedly resisted

Donald Trump’s decision to wage war on Iran after allying with Israel has angered many Americans. They consider the attack unnecessary and believe it could endanger the United States in the future.
It is not just regular citizens, but also people in positions of power, who are criticising Trump’s actions in Iran. Since February 28, 2026, several prominent individuals, regardless of their political affiliations, have spoken out on this issue and have called for an immediate halt to US activities in Iran. One such influential figure currently gaining attention on social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter) for condemning Donald Trump, is Antony Blinken, the former United States Secretary of State who served under Joe Biden’s presidency. During an episode of the ‘Big Take’ podcast by Bloomberg on March 4, 2026, he suggested that Trump had been acting erratically in Iran due to pressure from Israel.
Antony Blinken says Trump was pressured about Iran
As previously mentioned, Antony Blinken, who was previously the US Secretary of State, recently appeared on an episode of the ‘Big Take’ podcast. During it, Blinken discussed “Two keys to ending war in Iran” and commented on the current Trump administration’s decisions in Iran and how previous administrations had reacted differently under similar circumstances.
Talking about the alliance between the US and Israel in the attacks on Iran, Blinken said that the US acted under pressure from Israel. Additionally, he also hinted that Trump had caved in to the same pressures that Obama had refused to pay attention to when he was president, despite Israel at one point saying they would fight Iran alone. Speaking on this, he said, “Look, you know, this has been a long story when it comes to Iran. And back during the Obama Administration, the Israelis were pushing President Obama to take military action against Iran and were warning that they would do it themselves if he didn’t. And he wouldn’t, because he thought the better way to get it…the nuclear program…which is what we were focused on… was through very muscular diplomacy backed up by very strong sanctions that we rallied the world to put in place. And then we got the Iran nuclear agreement.”
Trump continues to lie about bombing an Iranian school
Soon after the US and Israel launched joint attacks on Iran on February 28, 2026, multiple news outlets reported that a school in Iran had been affected, resulting in the death of approximately 175 people, most of whom were children. Since then, the US has denied responsibility for the deaths. During a recent conversation with the press aboard Air Force One, Donald Trump even claimed that Iran was more likely to have bombed the location. However, recent studies by various sources suggest that Trump is lying.
Regardless of this, when asked why his opinion on the deaths of children in Iran differs so much from what seems to be the reality on the ground, he offered no solid answer. Instead, he resorted to a tactic that Mike Johnson has often used since taking office, the “I don’t know” approach. In a recent press interaction, when asked why he was the only one in his administration suggesting that Iran obtained a Tomahawk missile and bombed its own elementary school on the first day of the war, Trump simply said, “Because I just don’t know enough about it.” He added that he was told by people that the situation was under investigation. Umm, shouldn’t people refrain from making such bold claims when investigations are ongoing?
