Target runs are usually a routine errand. But for one frequent shopper, a recent trip turned into a detective mission after she spotted suspicious activity.

Florida creator Cat (TikTok/@catfasoldt) recently went on a Target run and noticed an unusually-behaving lady. In her video, she walked her viewers through how those “weird vibes” led to a full-blown mission. At the end, she helped the store stop a coordinated shoplifting effort.

Her account highlights how personal intuition can sometimes uncover a ridiculous display of audacity in broad daylight.

Cat was instantly curious about a suspicious lady’s grab-and-go tactics

While shopping at a busy Target, Cat noticed a woman in the toy section who didn’t appear to be browsing like a typical customer. The woman quickly grabbed two Tonies, specifically Lightning McQueen and Mater, without even looking at the other options.

“I was watching her. I was like, ‘Ooh, what is she going to pick out?'” Cat recalled, noting that the rapid-fire selection was “kind of weird” given the items cost $20 each.

The lady shoved the ‘Tonies’ into a backpack as part of a group effort

Cat’s suspicion was confirmed when she saw the woman “shove” the expensive toys directly into her backpack. Realizing this wasn’t just a solo act, Cat followed the lady. Soon, she saw her meeting up with two other accomplices who were also carrying backpacks.

“Oh, that’s what we’re doing. Got it,” Cat thought, before deciding she had to find someone to report the coordinated activity.

Cat alerted the Target staff about the suspicious lady and her group

Cat located a worker in the tech department, who then used a walkie-talkie to alert Target security. She was able to point out the specific lady and the two other people involved. She even offered to list exactly which items had been hidden. The employee took charge of the situation, thanking Cat for her vigilance.

Retail loss prevention isn’t that easy, even for big retailers

Shoplifting, particularly coordinated “grab” efforts involving multiple people with backpacks, remains a significant challenge for major retailers like Target. However, store employees are often trained not to physically intervene for safety reasons.

“Loss Prevention” (LP) teams rely heavily on surveillance and witness reports to build cases. By identifying the specific items stolen, like the high-demand Lightning McQueen Tonies, Cat provided the exact evidence needed. It helped the staff document the theft accurately and take action.

What to do if you witness suspicious activity at a store?

If you see something “crazy” during your next shopping trip, follow safety-first steps. First, observe from a distance. Do not confront the individuals yourself. As Cat did, keep a safe distance and simply watch the behavior.

While observing, try to remember specific items, clothing descriptions, or the number of people involved. Then, Look for staff members who have walkie-talkies or are near a landline. They can quickly alert the dedicated security team and take necessary action.

If you feel comfortable, let the staff know you are willing to give a statement. But don’t feel obligated to follow the shoplifters out of the store.
