‘I thought that was bad luck’: Houston woman goes to Kay, Jared to try on engagement rings. The gag? She’s single

A Houston woman went to multiple jewelry stores, like Kay’s and Jareds to try on engagement rings. The best part? She’s single.
It started when Qui2success (@qui2success) posted a TikTok to her page explaining that she has “faith of a mustard seed.” That is, she believes in the power of having just a small bit of faith in finding a husband. By going to try on rings, she’s manifesting an early start to her future life.
The video in question, which was targeted toward Christian TikTok, has garnered over 103,000 views since Qui2success posted it. But for those who are unfamiliar, what does it mean to have “faith of a mustard seed.” How does it correlate to (very early) engagement plans?
What is ‘faith of a mustard seed’?
Faith of a mustard seed is a reference to two different biblical quotes from the New Testament. In essence, ‘faith of a mustard seed,’ refers to Christ’s power. If a person can have just a little faith in Christianity, then they have an infinite source of power within them.
Jesus Christ said in Matthew that if his disciples had at least enough faith as the size of a mustard seed, they would be able to move a mountain. Similarly, in Luke 17:6, Christ states, “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it will obey you.”
Biblically, having at least a small amount of faith in God has insurmountable power. In this case, having faith that “goodwill will follow” and that trying on rings will be fruitful should have a powerful effect. Qui2success is practicing a form of self-affirmation and manifestation that many people describe as having powerful attributes. Whether that be spiritually or psychologically, it does seem that there’s a real-world application to manifestation that makes it useful for many individuals.
Why are many women going to try on rings or attend wedding expos if they’re not engaged?
It seems that many women share early planning in common with Qui2success. They practice the concept of ‘faith of a mustard seed.’ They’re going to wedding expos and regularly trying on rings, with a belief that God will provide them with their right match soon.
“Not a bad idea,” said one commenter. “I’ll never forget going to try on wedding dresses with a friend of mine before she even met her fiancé. She was speaking it into existence. She’s currently engaged.”
Another viewer said, “I’m going to bridal expos and trying on wedding dresses and I’m single.” With one commenter adding, “I’ve been to two expos. I have a little bridal stash of stuff that I was/am collecting for when that time comes,” in a reply.
Practically, the practice allows many women to plan exactly what they want in advance and understand themselves a bit better. Women trying on rings in stores has zero negative effect, only adding to their understanding of themselves and what they would want on a big day.
Plus, jewelers are happy to see women trying on rings and practicing ‘faith of a mustard seed.’ Jared Jewelers even left a positive reply, saying, “We love!! See you again soon.”
What ‘faith of a mustard seed’ means for Qui2success
In a comment to The Mary Sue, Qui2success clarified what ‘faith of a mustard seed’ means to her. “Faith of a mustard seed is about trusting God with things that are outside of our control. I know that’s hard for a lot of us, and sometimes it’s difficult to hold onto faith, but all it really takes is just a little,” she said.
She clarified that her belief in ‘faith of the mustard seed’ does not mean she will certainly find a partner. “It’s not me saying, ‘I’m certain this will happen.’ It’s me surrendering the outcome to God and trusting whatever He has planned for me,” she added.
She also clarified that her faith is different from manifestation. “It’s not about willing something into existence, but trusting God to do what’s best, even if it looks different from what I want. Faith allows room for God to say yes, no, or not yet, whereas manifestation is often about making the answer yes through your own effort.
She continued, “Trying on engagement rings as a single woman wasn’t me assuming marriage is guaranteed. It was more symbolic of hope. God already knows the desires of my heart, and for me, it was a way of acknowledging that this is something I’m serious about while still trusting His timing.”
