It’s been a long road for Dr. STONE! And now, the final episodes are coming to Crunchyroll. The Mary Sue sat down with Aaron Dismuke, Felecia Angelle, and Brandon McInnis to talk about the journey to the end of this beloved series.

Dr. STONE SCIENCE FUTURE Cour 3 sees the Kingdom of Science step into the future in some exciting ways. Dismuke plays our protagonist Senku, a man determined to help bring civilization back through science. Angelle is Kohaku, the brawn and beating heart of The Kingdom of Science.

McInnis is the delightful Gen, who always seems to be into something honestly. In fact, we asked about just that during our interview. He was charmed by the implication. But, there’s a clear moral throughline for Gen throughout Dr. STONE.

He smirked, “Gen’s going deep cover. Gen’s playing the long game… I think, personally, Gen has his affirmations in order every morning. When we first meet Gen, he comes across as a really shady dude.”

“Over time, he says things in certain ways that make you think, ‘what’s really going on in there,”’ the actor explained. “But, when you look at his actions? It’s very evident where those loyalties lie, with the Kingdom of Science.”

Throughout this show’s long run, the audience has developed a love for the Kingdom of Science too. And, it’s almost time to say goodbye.

The Heart of the Kingdom of Science

We spend a lot of time talking about cerebral approaches in Dr. STONE. But, Kohaku is marrying the brain to brawn. Felicia Angelle brings such heart to her character. And, we mean that literally!

“I just think she’s tremendous, and I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again,” Angelle smirked. “She is the beating heart and kicking leg of the Kingdom of Science.”

So, how does that strength manifest? Through unwavering belief. And, a strong sense of right and wrong. Here’s how the actor describes their role in this crew of very diverse people reaching for one goal.”

“I think that strength has been coded from the beginning,” Angelle told us. “One of the first things she says to Senku is ‘I’ve taken a liking to you.’ It’s a heart thing. She’s not like, ‘You know what, strategically, I think…’”

She added, “She’s like Nah, I like the cut of your jib. She has her love for her sister, her love for the village, her leadership, her ability to delegate and to never ask for something of someone that she’s not willing to do herself.”

Dr. STONE & Technological progress

Dr. STONE

One of the core tenets of Dr. STONE is the idea that technological progress will triumph in the end. Through collective action, there’s nothing that humans can’t achieve when they put their heads together.

It’s a comforting thought, but one that Aaron Dismuke really believes in. He spent a ton of time at the head of this series as Senku. We asked about the wild part from the recent episode where the Kingdom of Science decides to recreate the Internet. It’s a wild swing, but one that feels like the logical endpoint of this journey.

“This is what the whole Tsukasa arc is exploring right? Is technology worth it?,” Dismukes pondered. “There are downsides, but I think Dr. STONE makes a good case for, ‘Yes, it is worth it!,’ provided that the fruits of it are shared.”

“ It makes the case by showing us that people like Suika and Ruri get their lives saved or substantially improved,” Dismukes argued. “Suika, we cure her fuzzy sickness (myopia) and then we get to enjoy the fruits of her labor because she works with us and contributes so much. She saves all of our lives.”

“When everyone benefits from technology it tends to be worth it. And I think that’s true for the Internet as well,” he clarified. “But yeah, you can’t just throw technology at the wall. You have to be responsible and thoughtful.”

Part of the journey is the end. Dr. STONE SCIENCE FUTURE Season 4 Cour 3 is available to stream now on Crunchyroll every Thursday at 7:00 AM PT / 10:00 AM ET.
