Donald Trump doubles down on his problematic comments about Rob Reiner, saying that he was ‘very bad’ for the country

Donald Trump doesn’t go back on his words once he has uttered them, and this time as well, he is making no exception. I mean, what more do you even expect from him at the moment, honestly?
On December 14, 2025, it was announced that the legendary actor, director, screenwriter, and producer Rob Reiner (78), famous for his roles in All in the Family (1971–1979), When Harry Met Sally… (1989), and The Bear (2025), had passed away at his home in Brentwood alongside his wife, Michele (69). Following this news, many public figures took to their social media accounts to share their heartfelt condolences for the beloved couple. Instagram was abuzz with posts from individuals who had worked with Rob, recounting their experiences and using the most affectionate words to describe him. Zooey Deschanel, who starred with Rob in New Girl, wrote a lovely tribute and shared some pictures they had taken together. Jamie Lee Curtis also shared her thoughts on Rob Reiner, calling him “passionate” and “political.” Additionally, former President Barack Obama expressed his sorrow on X (formerly Twitter), stating that he and Michelle were “heartbroken” by the “tragic passing” of Rob and his “beloved wife,” Michele. Michelle Obama mentioned on a recent episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live that she and Barack were supposed to meet the Reiners that Sunday night and acknowledged their long-standing friendship with the couple.
That said, while many were saddened by the loss of Rob Reiner and Michele, including MAGA supporters who typically disagreed with his Anti-Trump stance, one person chose to showcase the most insensitive side of himself during this time of deep sorrow. On December 15, 2025, Donald Trump took to his Truth Social account to mockingly express his condolences for the Reiners’ passing, attributing their deaths to a “massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind-crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS.” Although Trump may have believed he was gaining favour with his MAGA followers through his exaggerated remarks about Rob Reiner, the reality was quite the opposite. People across the internet, including some of his own supporters, began to criticise him and urged him to remove his post, including notable Republican figures such as Marjorie Taylor Greene.
Trump clearly ignored the backlash and instead doubled down on his comments regarding Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele. When questioned about the negative reactions he was getting concerning his controversial remarks about the Reiners, Trump reiterated his statements from his Truth Social post, saying that he was not a fan of Reiner and labelled him a “deranged person,” while also calling him “very bad” for America.
