Does Ulta Take Back Opened Makeup?

Can you return opened makeup to Ulta?

You bought foundation three shades off or received the wrong makeup item—you’ve seen this film before. Anyone who’s been shopping for anything online—especially makeup—has been unsatisfied with the product they ordered at some point. So, does Ulta have a return policy?

And if they have a return policy, will they accept opened makeup?

Verdict: It depends

Ulta allows returns for items, even if they have been lightly used. The only makeup item that couldn’t be returned once opened is the Mini Brand Capsules. Wigs, hair extensions, and other intimate items are also not eligible for return. The refund will be issued if the item has been returned within 30 days. If the item is returned 31 to 60 days later, the refund will come in the form of merchandise credit instead.

Although most items can be returned, the refund method will depend on where the item was purchased. If the item was purchased through Ulta.com or Ulta.com Marketplace, then the item can be returned through delivery. But you, as the buyer, will have to shoulder the cost of the shipping fee.

Ulta.com purchases can be mailed back through this address: Ulta.com Return Center, 925 Belle Lane, Bolingbrook, IL 60490. For Ulta.com Marketplace purchases, an online refund can be initiated through this link.

If the purchase was done in-store, via Instacart, DoorDash, Same Day Delivery, or online in-store pickup, then the item must be returned to the store along with the proof of purchase.

What about items bought from Ulta outside the United States?

These items can still be returned, but only in the country of original purchase. Items bought overseas can’t be returned to Ulta stores in the United States. If you’re vacationing in another country and decide to buy at Ulta, you’ll want to be informed about their return policy.
