A Chicago woman says she decided to step far outside her comfort zone by visiting a nude beach alone as a form of “exposure therapy.” Instead of a quiet afternoon of self-reflection, she says she found herself navigating an unexpected cast of colorful regulars, eager to introduce themselves and warn her about everyone else.

TikTok creator the_thought_daughter (@the_thought_daughter) shared the story in a July 2026 viral video, describing what she called one of the strangest solo outings she’s ever experienced.
According to the creator, the beach had a tight-knit community of longtime visitors who appeared to know one another well.

“I was very much like in their nudist community space,” she explained. “I was an outsider walking in on something that was clearly established.”

Thought_Daughter claimed a “chiropractor” offered her a massage

Once at the beach, she said people chatted about one another’s families, divorces, and personal lives. She wanted to observe the atmosphere. After a long walk to the beach entrance, she said the first person she encountered was a man relaxing beneath an umbrella covered in glitter instead of swimwear.

“He replaced his swim trunks with glitter,” she joked, recalling how impossible it was not to notice. She eventually found a secluded spot, spread out a blanket, and began journaling. The outing, she said, was meant to help her confront anxiety through exposure therapy. “I’m uncomfortable. I’m trying to feel free and liberated, but I’m panicking,” she recalled thinking as she wrote in her journal.

That quiet moment didn’t last. She said one of the few beachgoers who wasn’t a senior citizen approached her for conversation before sitting down nearby. Not long afterward, another longtime visitor struck up a conversation, introducing her to what seemed like an endless network of regulars.

One man even identified himself as a chiropractor and offered her a massage. “I was like, ‘I’m okay,'” she said. “You could look, but you cannot touch.” Moments later, another regular allegedly warned her that the chiropractor had lost his professional license over misconduct, leaving the creator wondering what she had walked into.

The interactions continued throughout the afternoon

Then according to Thought_Daughter one persistent beachgoer repeatedly invited her to play Frisbee, promising, “I’ll circle back around to you later,” after she initially declined. Meanwhile, another older man loudly asked, “Is that guy bothering you?” before warning her, “He’s always making girls feel uncomfortable on this beach.”

The creator said the warnings became a recurring theme. “I cannot tell you how many times that day I had an old man come up to me and tell me, ‘Hey, I come in peace, watch out for these guys though.'” Despite their assurances, she admitted she found nearly all of the unsolicited conversations equally uncomfortable. “Genuinely, you’re all bothering me,” she said.

Eventually, she decided to join the Frisbee game after repeated invitations. What started as a two-person activity quickly expanded into a large group. “The two-person Frisbee turns into, like, a 13-player Frisbee,” she said.

Although she laughed that Frisbee might be “one of the most unattractive sports” to play at a nude beach, she said the experience ultimately became one she’ll never forget. When she left, she said she felt “on a high on life.”

“I’m crazy, but I’m free,” she said, encouraging adventurous friends to add the experience to their bucket lists, even if only once. The creator’s account reflects her personal experience and allegations shared on TikTok. The events described have not been independently verified.
