What happens on a cruise is supposed to stay on a cruise. Unless, of course, your wife catches you cheating halfway. In a TikTok that feels like reality TV with worse lighting, one man accidentally documented the exact moment a fellow passenger’s vacation imploded.
The clip contains all the necessary components to go viral: hallway screaming, public humiliation, and a shot of someone very much not sleeping in their own room. The last clip just places the cherry on top for a cheater story. And if you’re wondering whether this is rare behavior…the comments section has some news for you.
What Happened on this Carnival Cruise Ship?
For the gossip-lovers on TikTok, Rico (@plutoniumtravels) posted this one for you. Even if it’s just 15 seconds, it was enough of a wild story to capture over 575,000 viewers so far. The drama takes place in a cruise ship’s long hallway, complete with cleaning employees caught in the middle.
Rico is seemingly just a bystander, also caught in the mix of things. As he walks down the hallway, viewers can hear a woman yelling. His text overlay reads: “POV: you get caught cheating on a carnival.”
The woman continues shouting, and viewers finally hear, “You’ve got to be [expletive] kidding me.” Rico proceeds into the hallway, and viewers can now see the woman pacing. She mentions something along the lines of “got away with.”
She once again repeats the first sentence and walks back into view, looking at Rico for a split second. It seems she’s talking to him, and she says, “That dude’s [expletive] up.” The video then cuts to another clip. This time, Rico is videoing a person wrapped up in a blanket and lying on a poolside chair. The text says, “later on that night,” presumably, it is the cheating partner.
Do People Usually Cheat on Cruises?
Rico’s comments section was mixed with horrified to nonplussed reactions. Many even shared their own stories, claiming this was a common occurrence when on cruises. In 2015, one woman even wrote a book based on all the things she had seen when she used to work on cruises. In an interview with Stuff, Cathryn Chapman shares all about what inspired her novel Sex, Lies and Cruising.
The starting point was when she found out her boyfriend, who was an officer on the boat, had 10 girlfriends at the same time. In 2024, another former cruise worker had an interview with LADBible where she shared similar experiences, focusing on crew members who cheated on their partners religiously.
However, Chapman emphasized that it was against company rules to have any relations between crew and passengers, and whenever it was discovered, the crew were dismissed. Of course, it is unclear if the man in Rico’s TikTok cheated with a crew member or another passenger.
