Report: Blogger and Picasa to be Rebranded

This article is over 13 years old and may contain outdated information

Mashable is reporting that both Google’s popular blogging platform Blogger and their photo service Picasa will be rebranded to fit in better to the post Google+ world. Instead of their traditional monikers, which in the case of Blogger has lasted over 10 years, Picasa will become Google Photos and Blogger will transform into Google Blogs. According to the report the transition is set to take place at the public roll out of Google+, within the next four to six weeks.

The rebranding is apparently part of an effort to bring the various Google products closer together. With Google+ clearly becoming a centerpiece of Google’s operations, it is possible that these changes could bring these services into Google+ itself. It’s worth noting that Google+ already has a photo service that can transport Google users’ existing photos into Google+. Mashable also reports that the blogging platform soon-to-possibly-be-formerly-known-as-Blogger may also get a much needed overhaul during the rebranding.

It’s worth noting that Mashable does not say where they’ve come by this information, not even sorting that font of information: Unnamed Source. Like all unconfirmed Internet news, a healthy grain of salt might be in order. That said, the possibility of a more tightly integrated suite of Google products is certainly an exciting one. We’ll see how this shakes out.
