Some commenters advised legal action
In response to this shocking tale, many commenters advised Eris to consider taking legal action. “Girl sue them immediately get a lawyer,” one wrote. “It’s time to sue,” another echoed, while a third urged, “Go get your money!”
Others shared their own similar stories. “Mine exploded in front of my face I was about to blow it out,” a fourth recounted. While a fifth shared, “This happened to me too but by the time I got home from the hospital my roommate threw out the candle and all evidence.”
There has been a lawsuit for a similar issue
In 2023, Renita Francois launched a lawsuit against Bath & Body Works. In the litigation papers, as quoted by the New York Post, it was said that her life was “irrevocably changed” after the ‘Sweater Weather’ candle exploded on her face after she leaned in to smell it.
Like Eris, the explosion left her with second-degree burns on her face. The “shockwave of fire and debris” also burnt both her eyelashes and eyebrows off. The legal papers added that the scars, for Francois, sparked “an emotional and psychological battle, an assault on her self-perception, and a daily reminder of a tragedy that could have been prevented.”
The papers also claim that the candle in question was made with “with substandard materials, improper safety measures, and inadequate testing, creating an unreasonable risk of explosion.” In addition to this, the litigation alleges that Bath & Body Works has known about this risk since 2016.
“Before the explosion, Renita was bold, fearless, and effortless in commanding an audience. Today, she walks into public meetings, panel discussions, and leadership summits knowing that her scars speak before she does,” the paper adds.
“This lawsuit is not just about compensation—it is about accountability. It is about ensuring that corporations that prioritize profit over consumer safety do not escape responsibility for the harm they cause.”
