All ‘Onyx Storm’ spicy chapters, confirmed
Well, it’s been a while since we’ve been able to catch up with the cadets and officers of Basgiath War College. Of course, one of the biggest draws of Rebecca Yarros’ Empyrean series remains the tumultuous and passionate relationship between Violet Sorrengail and Xaden Riorson. How do they handle their relationship with Xaden’s … impending shift in Onyx Storm? How does that affect their previously plentiful physical activity?
Having finally finished the book, I’d say the spice level in Onyx Storm is relatively mild compared to its predecessor, Iron Flame—although that doesn’t mean Violet and Xaden are any less attracted to each other. If anything, they’re more desperate to be together than ever, but circumstances beyond their control are testing their limits.

Chapter 3
I mean, we have to ease into it, don’t we? We can’t just jump straight to third base. In this chapter, Violet and Xaden have a steamy make-out session that threatens to turn into something more until Xaden restrains himself. That happens a lot in this book. In comparison with other Empyrean spicy chapters, this is pretty mild.
Chapter 12 (starts at the end of Chapter 11)
Xaden and Violet share another passionate kiss, but much to Violet’s frustration (though she does understand Xaden’s reluctance) it doesn’t go any further than that. She really, really wants him though. That’s very much a recurring theme throughout Onyx Storm. They talk about it a little. It’s all very mature. Look at them communicating their feelings!
Chapter 18
Xaden is jealous. Jealous of what, you may ask? It’s not like Violet would ever cheat on him. Well, as it turns out, he’s envious of literally anything that gets to touch her because he can’t fully trust himself not to go all venin on her if he does. They share a sexy kiss, there’s a bunch of heated dirty talk, and that’s pretty much it. Violet’s sexual frustration is building, but so is Xaden’s.
Chapter 25 (starts in Chapter 24)
After another sudden kiss, Violet (and Xaden) both finally get their wish. Traveling to an island without magic has its perks, as it turns out—though their dragons are suffering. This chapter picks up where Chapter 24 left off and includes a pretty explicit sex scene. Hella spicy.
Chapter 48
This time around, Rebecca Yarros wanted to give her readers a few kiss-filled cliffhangers, although she certainly doesn’t make them wait for very long. Xaden (sort of) has his non-sexual urges under control, so he and Violet share another steamy kiss and some dirty talk that leads to exactly what they want.
Chapter 49
This is another open-door, explicit sex scene, in which Violet and Xaden share one last hurrah before everything seems to go wrong. Fighting venin and dealing with unruly dragons isn’t as easy as they once thought.
We’ll have to wait and see what happens next.
