Alabama woman’s friends randomly visit her to announce they’re going on a cruise and want her to watch their 2 dogs: ‘They’re just being cheap’
Going on a cruise and unable to afford boarding for your dogs? Yeah, that’s a lie.

Friendship often involves favors. But for TikTok creator Dolly Day (@dollyday800), a surprise house visit turned into an awkward standoff. They wanted her to watch their two dogs while they enjoy on a cruise. Who’s the A-hole?
When Dolly’s friends showed up at her house out of the blue, she knew something was up. Soon, the friends revealed they were going on a cruise for six days. However, they claimed that professional boarding for their two dogs was “real expensive.”
Their solution? Force Dolly to watch the two dogs alongside her own because she “likes dogs.” In a video with over 53,000 views, Dolly questions if her “no” makes her the villain of the story.
The casual visit was to ask for a six-day favor
The encounter began when Dolly’s friends “popped over” while she was working from home. Dolly sensed a motive behind the chit-chat, and eventually, the husband mentioned their upcoming vacation. But it wasn’t to invite her in.
Quickly sensing where the conversation is heading, Dolly suggested the high-end boarding facility she uses for her own dog, Duke. But the friends complained about the cost. As Dolly expected, they asked if she could care for their two medium-sized, “excitable” dogs for six days.
The ‘you like dogs’ logic failed to sway her
When Dolly politely declined, her friends countered with, “Well, why? But you like dogs.” But Dolly kept her calm and compared the situation to her love for her family. She explained that while she loves her own pets and grandkids, she isn’t interested in the responsibility of caring for everyone else’s.
Dolly also politely told the, that working from home with two additional high-energy dogs is a logistical nightmare. Understandably, she wasn’t willing to endure that just because her friends wanted to save money.
The friends claimed to understand, but their body language was off
Although the friends verbally claimed to “understand” her refusal, Dolly noted that their body language suggested deep offense. This disconnect left her wondering if she was being unreasonable.
But prioritizing her own peace and professional environment over their travel budget is anything but unreasonable. What is unreasonable is the assumption that people who work from home have unlimited free time for domestic favors.
The hidden labor of caring for multiple dogs in a households
What the friends need to understand is adding two extra dogs to a home isn’t just about “liking” animals. It’s a significant increase in physical and mental labor. For someone who works from home, “excitable” dogs can disrupt meetings, require frequent bathroom breaks, and alter the established routine of the resident pet.
Professional boarding facilities charge high rates because they provide 24/7 supervision, insurance, and professional care. Expecting a friend to provide that same service for free is an overreach of social etiquette. Especially for a week-long trip.
TikTok users think the friends are just ‘being cheap’
The internet has firmly sided with Dolly, with many pointing out the entitlement of the request. “Once you told them where you board your dog, that should have been their clue,” one said. But the friends ignored the obvious social cue
“If they can afford a cruise, they can afford a dog sitter,” another viewer remarked, pointing out the financial irony. “Let them board their dogs. They are just being cheap,” another added, dismissing the friends’ complaints about costs.
As many users stressed, being a good person doesn’t mean being a doormat for your friends’ financial convenience. Perhaps Dolly’s “no” shifted the vibe of the friendship. But her living room and her sanity remained intact.
We hope the friends cared to book quality kennel for their dogs instead of tossing the responsibility to another friend. And if you’re ever in Dolly’s place, remember to keep your work-from-home boundaries tight if you must.
