In a video with over 128,000 views, TikToker and food reviewer Betweenbites (@betweenbites_) sits at the bar, looking dissatisfied. Then, she holds up a plastic cup holding what she hoped would be an espresso martini.

What was wrong with her espresso martini?

On-screen text reads, “When you ask for an espresso martini and they give you Folgers and vodka in a plastic cup.”

She takes a sip and puts the cup down.

The TikToker continues in the caption, writing, “Honestly, the Philly airport has spoiled me because at that airport I can get REAL food and an espresso martini in the PROPER glass. I would NEVER order an espresso martini at a dive bar, but the airport should at least have some couth with how many people travel daily.”

A classic espresso martini typically consists of cooled espresso, coffee liqueur, and vodka, according to Preppy Kitchen. Folgers is a pre-ground coffee mix, not espresso.

What did viewers think about the beverage?

In the comments, viewers say they were appalled at the bizarre espresso martini-inspired concoction the bartender served the TikToker.

“That would’ve definitely got me on the no fly list. You’re the world, strongest soldier cause an espresso martini that’s Folgers and vodka would be enough for me to fight a grown man,” one jokes.

“This would actually send me over the edge just gimme a vodka shot at that point,” another writes.

“Bruh I could’ve done a better job and I don’t even mix drinks as a living,” a third says.

“Don’t even drink espresso martini’s and I’m offended lol,” a fourth adds.

Others say they also experienced subpar drinks at airport bars. Some ask the TikToker if she was overcharged for the drink, too.

“Once ordered one at the mke airport and got the same. my friend and i chugged them and the bartender brought us another round on the house since we ‘finished them so quick they must’ve been so good!'” a commenter says.

“That’s every airport bar,” another suggests. However, the TikToker disagrees, responding, “No, it’s not.”

“Was it also $80?” one asks.

“I bet they charged the hell out of you too omg,” a fourth remarks.

Bartenders weigh in, too.

“As a bartender who’s has also been disappointed by it espresso martinis like this: don’t order it if they don’t have an espresso machine or if it’s not on the cocktail menu. They’re just throwing shit at the wall and hoping it sticks at that point,” one suggests.

“I work at the [expletive] dive bar and I can do better than that,” another says.

I think I need to share my go to places for espresso martini because this isn’t it. ?? #airportfood #cocktails #espressomartini #divebar #cocktailbar ♬ Running Off – Jshxwty

Update Oct. 1, 2025:

In a direct message to The Mary Sue, the TikToker says, “It’s not the bartender’s fault. I believe you are doing a huge disservice to customers when they batch cocktails that should not be batched.”

She continues, “An espresso martini should never be batched, let alone, without espresso!”
