A reporter fact-checks Trump’s poll claims, and his go-to defense is classic Trump

Gone are the days when people used to simply comply with Donald Trump’s repeated lies and keep silent when he used his deflection tactics; now they are all saying, “Enough!” Although one could argue that it is a bit too delayed a reaction, I believe it is better to be late than sorry.
After Trump went full nuclear on Kaitlan Collins from CNN recently while trying to deflect a Jeffrey Epstein case-related question, it appears that journalists are no longer willing to put up with his shenanigans and are ready to confront him head-on.
On February 4, 2026, Donald Trump sat for an interview with NBC News’ Tom Llamas, where he discussed topics such as “immigration enforcement, the American economy, U.S. tensions with Iran, Joe Rogan, AI”, and others. While some of the things he said during the interview could be considered controversial to say the least, there is one particular moment from the programme that is going viral on social media, especially on platforms like X (formerly Twitter), urging people to debate. In this specific clip, Trump could be seen bragging about his poll numbers on the economy, which, according to him, are starting to look “great.” Only the fact is that it isn’t that great; if anything, it has been the worst it has ever been, and Llamas instantly clocked him for that, correcting his assertions, saying, “The polls on the economy, they’re not great.” Despite the rebuttal, Trump continued, softening his stance a little bit this time, stressing that “they should be great,” prompting Llama to cross-question him again, asking, “They should be, so why aren’t they, if you believe that?” The same appeared to have caused some stress to Donald Trump, who, in haste, replied with a “I don’t know.”
After this back and forth, Donald Trump then took his familiar route of blaming Joe Biden, suggesting that the Trump administration had poured in much larger amounts into the economy than the Biden administration. He also added that had Biden served the United States for another term, the economy and people would have suffered immensely. This is what he exactly said:
I have $18 trillion being invested into the country. Biden had less than a trillion for four years, and the whole country was going to create it. Do you… know that if they won that election and we won in a landslide, do you know, if they won that election, this country was, I think, it was finished. I actually think it was finished. You would have had people instead of 18 coming in 18 trillion, you would have had $10 trillion leaving. I think our country, I think we would have been Venezuela on steroids.”
