A Baptist Church Pastor is drawing parallels between Nicolás Maduro and Donald Trump, and it kinda makes sense

Donald Trump may currently be basking in the glory of taking down Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, but not everyone is happy and celebrating the news. It’s not just about Maduro’s removal, who many consider to be a villain, but rather what the USA’s interference in the internal affairs of sovereign nations like Venezuela signifies for the country and the potential consequences it may bring in the future, including the possibility of a war or a war-like situation.
While multiple people in positions of power have appreciated Donald Trump’s kidnapping of Nicolás Maduro and, in extension, his removal from power in Venezuela, a lot of people have also voiced their concerns over the move, especially Democrats and a few Republicans, including Thomas Massie and Marjorie Taylor Greene. It’s worth noting that the criticism isn’t just limited to those connected to the U.S. government; regular citizens are also expressing their discontent. One such individual is Rev. Kevin Johnson from Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem, whose video condemning Trump and his administration is currently going viral on multiple social media platforms, especially on X (formerly Twitter).
In the video, the pastor can be seen drawing parallels between Nicolás Maduro and Donald Trump, emphasising that they share many similarities. Johnson believes that both are “criminals,” both are “thugs,” both have “rigged” elections, both have attempted to “silence” their critics, both have pursued their own interests at the expense of others, both have “weaponised” the justice system for their own purposes, and both have deceived the public for various reasons. His full speech in this context was:
“America, we’ve got to wake up. You know, I don’t doubt that Nicolás Maduro is a thug, but so is Trump. I don’t doubt that Maduro is a criminal, but so is Trump. I don’t doubt that Maduro rigged the elections, but so did Trump. I don’t doubt that Maduro tried to silence his critics, but so has Trump.
He also added:
“I don’t doubt that Maduro tried to enrich himself, but so has Trump. I don’t doubt that Maduro has weaponised the justice system, but so has Donald Trump.”
Johnson’s statements about Trump have drawn a lot of criticism online, especially on X. While the majority of users on the platform seem to agree with him, many who typically support Trump and the MAGA movement have dismissed his comments as inaccurate and have instead insulted him for his derogatory remarks about Trump.
