According to The Daily Blam!, Brett Cullen and Chris Ellis have joined the cast of The Dark Knight Rises. Both veteran character actors, you might recognize Cullen from Ghostrider, Friday Night Lights, or a lot of guest star work on things like Lost or Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Ellis was in Catch Me If You Can, Armageddon, and, oddly enough, had a role in the pilot of Birds of Prey, so there’s your Batman tie in.
Both actors, however, portrayed astronauts in 1995’s Apollo 13. I just tell you this because it’s a credit they share, not because there are astronauts in The Dark Knight. FYI.
No, Cullen will be playing an unnamed judge, and Ellis a priest, once again adding character roles and actors that in no way explain what the plot of the film is going to be, nor give us any indication of whether Bane will be the main villain or just a villain, whether Marion Cotillard is going to turn out to be Talia, whether Ra’s al Ghul or the League of Assassins will be making a comeback or in what capacity. And even when we do get a synopsis of the movie, it’s not unlikely to have some kind of character reveal thrown into it like Batman Begins where Liam Neeson was credited as Henri Ducard to keep that twist under wraps, because Christopher Nolan is a savvy guy.
I’d say that I can’t wait until next summer to find out, but honestly what would I do with myself without a Nolan movie to speculate on?
