Modern dating apps have made arranging a night out deceptively easy. But they have also normalized an agonizing culture of last-minute flaking and ghosting. For Manchester TikTok creator Saphi (@saphibartlett), putting full effort into her evening makeup ended with a harsh reminder of dating etiquette rules.
In a viral TikTok video sitting at over 1.9 million views, Saphi filmed her post-match debrief while striding through the city center in full glam. What was meant to be an exciting evening meetup turned into something she’d never experienced: getting stood up without so much as a warning message.
“You do not get ready if he has not texted. And trust me, never, ever, ever in my entire life have I or would I do this,” she warned her viewers. So, if a date goes silent on the day of your plans, put the makeup brushes down, call your friends, and hit the block button before they can make up an excuse.

Saphi admitted in her video that the initial communication leading up to the outing had been sporadic at best. She claimed that she had been taking a day or two to reply between messages. However, she said that she was just matching his casual energy and keeping her expectations at a minimum.
But despite having a specific venue, time, and location locked in from the night before, the date allegedly never sent a single message to confirm plans on the actual day. Now Saphi knew the unspoken golden rule of modern dating, i.e,, never start your hair and makeup without a same-day confirmation. Yet, she chose to get ready anyway.
Saphi rationalized that the two-hour routine could double as content for a beauty tutorial. “Rule number one: you do not get ready if he has not texted… The only thing that got me to do it is, I was like, ‘I’m going to film content anyway.’ So like, the very worst that happens is I’ve got a makeup video, and that’s fine,” she said.
Saphi was ghosted at the finish line without a single update
When the time to leave for the date came, Saphi checked her phone to allegedly find total radio silence. Refusing to humiliate herself by traveling to the venue and waiting alone for a phantom arrival, she called off the date. Rather than heading home in defeat, she redirected her night out to grab drinks with a friend so her freshly styled outfit wouldn’t go to waste.
“Luckily, I’m going out to meet my friend now, because your girl’s always gonna have a backup option. But men are trash, and I actually never wanna date one again in my life.” Throughout the walk, she openly debated sending a trap message pretending she was already at the bar just to force a stammering excuse out of him.
Ultimately, Saphi leaned toward cutting contact entirely, noting that giving him zero reaction was the most powerful move. “I very much enjoy putting men in their place, but I also don’t want it to look like I care, because I really don’t. I will just block him now.”
Ending her video with a laugh, Saphi reminded her followers that a man’s inability to communicate is an immediate disqualifier, not a mystery to be solved. Because no one is too busy to send a five-second text. But hey, at least it’s better than having to sit through a nightmare date.
