Depop Seller Sells ‘Essentially New’ Shorts to a Woman. She Claims They Are Defective and Sends Them Back Without the Liners and With Huge Holes

She just wanted to sell her shorts, now she is left with something that is no longer resellable

It’s hard to tell whether people are being scammed more or if people are just reporting it more often, but there’s clearly a problem. It previously happened to this California based Depop seller who got back a different jacket than the one she sold a buyer and now it has happened to someone else. In a video uploaded to her TikTok, Bri (briannachrista) said that she was conned on Depop while trying to sell a pair of Lulu Lemon shorts.

Bri said she priced the shorts at $10, and a woman bought them, but shortly after, she wanted to return them, citing defects. She allegedly told Bri the shorts had holes in them and were unfit to wear. Bri says in the video that when she sold the clothing, it had no defects, however, because the customer claimed it did, she initiated a refund and asked the customer to return the item.

She mentioned that on the day the customer sent the shorts, she messaged her that she had cut the shorts’ liners and that, while doing so, she created a hole in them. She also apparently told Bri that she would understand if she could not refund the amount.

Expressing her anger over the incident, Bri said, “First of all, there was never a hole in the listing, as I showed you. Second of all, she had already sent the return back. And then she sends me this message, knowing that she not only cut out the liner, but put more holes in them that were not there to begin with.”

Bri said she didn’t respond immediately and instead waited to see the garment’s condition herself before saying anything. And then, when she finally received it, she was shocked. “There is a ginormous hole in the front,” Bri said while holding up the shorts at the camera.

She continued, “So she cut out the liner….Ginormous hole in the front.” Then she turned the shorts towards the back and said, “The back? Another Ginormous hole with, like, smaller ones next to it. See, there’s a huge hole literally through the shorts, really through both sides. And there are some other smaller ones across the sides as well.”

“I’d buy her stuff and do the same thing”

Bri mentioned that she tried to raise the issue with Depop but failed. She questioned the platform’s customer service and said, “…Depop has no customer service whatsoever. They’re not willing to help. There’s no one to even reach out to…And the fact that someone can do this to another person through a third-party selling app and get away with it because they have no resourceful customer service or any way of resolving any type of issue.”

Some in the comments section extended their support for Bri and called out the customer’s behavior. One user wrote, “I’m petty I’d buy her stuff and do the same thing.” Another user said, “This is so disgusting and unacceptable omg…. People are so inconsiderate and scammy! Ugh.”

A few others, like Bri, challenged Depop’s customer service. One user commented saying, “Depop sucks fr. Why would they close the case before the refund is issued. That holds buyers accountable too. It’s not $10 it’s the principle.” Another remarked, “Depop is lowkey the worst. They closed my entire account with over $100 worth of money I had sitting in my balance. Due to “using stock photos”…they weren’t… never got it resolved so they just stole my money essentially!”

Does Depop have a dedicated customer service?

Depop does have a customer service interface, but its effectiveness is questionable. If anyone wants to raise an issue related to the platform, the only option seems to be to wait for a response after submitting a complaint. From the help center, you can submit a request by providing your details, including your email address, username, and the issue.

A Reddit thread discusses the inefficacy of Depop’s customer service. Replying to an individual’s query concerning the existence of Depop customer service phone number, one individual wrote, “Nope, it really sucks they don’t! Try their Twitter as they seem to be more active on there.” Another user said, “I don’t understand this. It’s like there is none there that everybody is automated. Still holding my money that I sold.”

Hopefully, Bri receives a proper resolution from Depop and doesn’t end up like this woman from Maine who faced disappointment while using Airbnb.
