Dairy Queen Customer Orders Two Blizzards and a Water. Then the Cashier Allegedly Snaps Back With a Major Attitude Problem: ‘What’s Next?’

The order was simple, but the tone was something else

AI is becoming more common in fast-food ordering, but customers may not always get the kind of service they are used to. Sometimes, the problem isn’t whether the technology understands the order. It’s how it responds.

That seems to be what happened during one recent Dairy Queen visit. The system got the order right, but the way it kept asking the same question made it sound like it was already tired of the customer.

TikToker Emmy (@emmyhaggerty) shared the interaction in a video that has received 12.9 million views. As a man ordered two Blizzards and a water, the AI cashier repeatedly asked him, “What’s next?”

The tone was hard to miss

The interaction starts normally enough, with the customer adding a large cup of water to his order. Almost immediately, the automated voice responds, “What’s next?” He then starts ordering a small Royal Ultimate Chocolate Brownie Blizzard, only to hear another “What’s next?” before eventually telling the system that’s everything.

Despite the impatient-sounding exchange, the AI appears to understand the order without a problem. It reads back a small Butterfinger Blizzard, a cup of water, and a small Ultimate Chocolate Brownie Blizzard. After the customer confirms everything is correct, the system gives him a total of $12.49 and wishes him a good night.

Emmy clearly noticed the tone too. Text across the video reads, “dairy queen and their new ai cashier needs an attitude check,” while she captioned the post, “WHATS NEXT!!!”

The wording became one of the biggest jokes in the comments. “‘What’s next?’ Is a weird choice. Lol how about ‘anything else?’” one viewer wrote. Someone else similarly asked, “What ever happened to ‘anything else?’”

Others thought the AI already sounded tired of taking orders. “AI already hates their jobs,” one commenter joked. Another wrote, “ooo girl her shift was over,” while a third concluded, “Missy doesn’t joke around.”

AI drive-thrus have already given customers plenty to react to. Some have tried pushing the technology with massive orders, while others have tested just how much an automated cashier will accept. Nothing about Emmy’s Dairy Queen order required that kind of challenge. Two Blizzards and a water were enough to make the AI’s response the story.

The encounter also comes as Dairy Queen expands its use of voice AI. In April, the chain announced an expanded partnership with Presto after testing the technology at corporate stores. The company said the pilot would extend to select franchisees and is intended to maintain order accuracy while freeing employees to focus on other tasks.

But not everyone was laughing about the AI cashier. “So Ai is taking drive thru jobs now?? What’s next?!” one person commented. Another wrote, “They actually taking over jobs wtf.” Someone else called the situation “actually sad,” pointing to concerns about workers losing jobs to computers.

For now, the AI did exactly what it was supposed to do and got the order right. But if Dairy Queen wants customers to get used to a voice on the other end of the speaker, “What’s next?” might need a slightly friendlier replacement.
