Jared Leto’s Most Dedicated Fans Are Grappling With New Allegations Against the Actor

Jared Leto’s longtime supporters are reacting after a new BBC investigation detailed allegations of criminal sexual conduct against the Oscar-winning actor and Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman.
The BBC documentary Jared Leto: Hollywood’s Dark Secret features interviews with 10 women who describe alleged encounters with Leto between 2002 and 2016. Four women interviewed by the BBC accuse Leto of criminal behavior, including allegations involving encounters when they were teenagers. Leto, who is now 54, has not responded to the allegations.
While Leto has maintained a devoted fanbase throughout his decades-long career, early online reactions to the documentary have largely focused on disappointment, renewed scrutiny, and questions about how the actor’s career continued despite previous allegations.
“Well done to these women”
According to the BBC, four women featured in the documentary allege criminal conduct by Leto, while additional women describe what they characterize as inappropriate or sexual interactions.
Isabel, a woman interviewed by the BBC, says Leto sexually assaulted her in 2002 when she was 17. Another woman, Alex, says Leto threatened her with sexual assault after she found herself alone with him in a hotel room when she was 19.
A third woman, Clara, alleges she had sex with Leto when she was 17 and he was 34, which she says would constitute statutory rape under California law. Another woman, Etta, alleges Leto engaged in sexually explicit phone conversations with her when she was 16 and later sent her a non-disclosure agreement.
The BBC strengthened its reporting by interviewing friends and family members who said the women shared details of the encounters at the time, while also reviewing photographs and messages related to their accounts. Two former members of Thirty Seconds to Mars’ team also spoke about concerns regarding Leto’s interactions with young women.
Following the documentary’s release, many commenters online said the allegations didn’t come as a surprise, pointing to previous accusations and discussions about Leto’s behavior that have circulated for years.
On Reddit and YouTube, some commenters referenced earlier allegations against the actor and questioned why he continued receiving major Hollywood roles. Others criticized the entertainment industry for continuing to work with Leto despite previous public scrutiny.

Other commenters urged others not to rush to judgment, arguing that investigators should examine the allegations before anyone reaches a conclusion and that Leto remains innocent unless proven guilty.
However, the dominant reaction among many online commenters was that the BBC report renewed concerns they believed had already existed around the actor and musician.

While reactions to the BBC documentary have largely focused on the allegations themselves, many commenters have also questioned how Leto’s ongoing career, pointing to his recent appearances in major projects, including Tron: Ares and Masters of the Universe.
Some commenters argued that the actor’s continued presence in blockbuster films showed how difficult it can be for audiences to separate celebrity success from serious accusations.
