Woman Goes on a Run With Hinge Date. Then They Come Across a Sketchy Area—Where He Jokes About Unaliving Her: ‘Leave Him or Leave Us out of It’

One thing is for sure: If you ask TikTok about a “red flag” you see in a Hinge date, you’d better not press post on that video. At least not if you plan to keep dating him without thousands of commenters begging you to leave.

That’s what happened to a woman who “exposed” her partner for ordering a shrimp cocktail even though she is allergic to shellfish. More than 7,000 commenters told her she should not put up with it. Another woman joked about her boyfriend only booking a first-class plane ticket for himself. That video got almost 10,000 comments saying she should leave him.

Those situations may be black and white, and may require a more nuanced perspective.

However, TikTok thinks this recent video is an actual cause for concern and a definite “she should leave him” situation.

It all began when Dallas-based content creator Amber (@ambergerss) posted what she meant as a funny video about her date making a perhaps off-color joke. Almost 9,000 commenters thought otherwise.

What Happened on This Hinge Date?

“That one time my date joked about k*lling me in an area I’d never been before,” Amber wrote in the video’s text overlay, starting strong.

She films her surroundings while the man she is with runs ahead of her in what appears to be a wooded nature area.

“20 minutes earlier: he kept leaving me,” she wrote on-screen.

Then she films herself running, visibly tired and out of breath.

“I can’t keep up but I’m too embarrased to say anything,” she added on-screen.

She then films the man again, now running even farther away.

“One mile in I asked for a break,” Amber wrote in the text overlay.

At one point, she shows her Apple Watch, which shows a heart rate of 170.

Then the joke happened.

“The moment where i wasn’t sure i’d see my parents again,” she wrote.

“This is where i was gonna k*ll you,” she transcribes the man’s joke.

“Huh?” Amber asks.

The date repeats himself.

“This is where i was gonna k*ll you,” he says.

“Is it?” she asks.

The man then appears to realize he was being recorded.

“Omg did you record that,” he says while laughing nervously. “I was just kidding.”

Commenters Sounded The Alarm

In the comments, viewers were not laughing.

“Girl he was serious!!” one commenter wrote. “He said he was joking when he realized you were recording. Go to the police report him because he maybe killing his dates.”

Another person said she had experienced something similar.

“the boyfriend I had that loved to joke about killing me…. did in fact try to kill me,” they wrote.

Someone else questioned why Amber stayed.

“Are people really that desperate for love because I would’ve left immediately,” they wrote.

Another commenter said the joke was not even the first red flag in the video.

“Yall standards are so low,” they wrote. “If a guy invited me out running and didn’t even run alongside me but chose to run far ahead of me- I would never see him again bc that ALONE tells you what kind of man he is. Then he follows it up with that comment? Yall love overlooking red flags then come crying to us later”

Amber, however, pushed back on the concern.

“Edit: I’m ok yall he was just joking, lighten up,” she wrote in the caption.

Amber also posted several photos from different dates with the man in a follow-up post.

“It wasn’t our first hike, I’m ok. He’s also one of the kindest man I’ve ever met,” she wrote in the caption of that post.

How Big Of A Hinge Date Red Flag Is This?

No one on TikTok can know a relationship from one short clip. And Amber has repeatedly said she is OK and that the man was joking.

If this is an isolated incident and her date is an otherwise respectful, kinda partner, it may not be an immediate raging red flag.

According to the National Network to End Domestic Violence, there are several warning signs people should watch for in relationships.

Some of those red flags involve someone moving too quickly, ignoring boundaries, mocking you for having boundaries, or trying to isolate you from friends, family, hobbies, school, or work.

Other signs can include excessive jealousy, constantly demanding to know where you are, putting you down, blaming you for their own behavior, refusing to take responsibility, or having a history of abusing others.

@ambergerss Edit: I’m ok yall he was just joking, lighten up #fyp #hingedating #hikingadventures #horrortok #Running ♬ オリジナル楽曲 – ?けちゃん?❤️‍?8/22生誕祭??✨? – 人妻Kちゃん?❤️‍?
