Digging into a takeout meal we’re hankering for is an innocuous activity most partake in. The thought of investigating it before diving in doesn’t cross some people’s minds, except this one woman. She reminds us to proceed with caution after she noticed a bizarre, grainy spot in her Chick-fil-A chicken strips.

As she sits in her car, TikTok creator Fritos (@imakefunedits33) picks up a chicken strip with her manicured fingers out of the Chick-fil-A cardboard clamshell to-go box on her lap. Nothing seems super out of the ordinary, right? Perhaps a large, extra crispy piece of skin on the tender.

Think again. When she zooms in on the crevices, she unveils to over 940,000 viewers some yellow, clustered specks.

Revolted, the content creator slammed the chicken chain in the caption, “Chick-fil-A do better.”

To add insult to injury, she was already knee-deep into the meal. The second video showcases the Chick-fil-A tender with three opened honey mustard sauce containers and chicken tender pieces picked apart. Then, she plucks the tender out of the box to unveil questionable flecks on it.

Viewers Are Just As Grossed Out

“I need to start examining my food more,” the top comment, with 20.8k likes, remarked.

“I probably ate 100’s of those bc i just pull out the bag and its gone lol,” a second stated.

A third added, “Omg I just ate some like 2 hours ago and didn’t check mineeee.”

Meanwhile, others proposed and unanimously agreed what this mysterious spot was.

“That is disgusting. Fly eggs. Been sitting out enough to make you doubly sick. Send to corporate,” one commenter suggested.

“That’s fly eggs,” a second echoed.

Could This Be Fly Eggs on the Chick-fil-A Tender?

Upon examination and research, what Fritos found in her Chick-fil-A chicken strips certainly checks out. For starters, Trashcans Unlimited notes these white pinhead-sized eggs are oval-shaped and gradually darken until they’re brown and ready to hatch. As the eggs mature, they can turn yellow. Moreover, it’s common for most flies to relish dark, disgusting, decaying dwellings to deposit their unhatched young. But it’s not always the case.

If the food is left uncovered long enough, the fly will claim it as its own as long as it’s in a moist, cozy environment. This was theorized by an alleged former employee in the comments section.

“Very possible. I used to work at CFA. The strips are the ones that sit in the tray the longest and sometimes aren’t changed for the longest, an hour,” they inferred.

The worst part? It only takes 24 hours for them to fully hatch into larvae (i.e., maggots).

Are They Safe To Consume?

If you’ve accidentally chowed down on food with these on it, you should be safe. This usually passes through the digestive tract into the stomach. In rare cases where the eggs survive and mature into larvae, it can develop into Intestinal myiasis. Be sure to monitor for symptoms such as nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal pain.

Furthermore, don’t finish the meal. Since flies normally pick up bacteria from other places they’ve landed (like garbage cans and feces), it can contaminate the food, which can cause foodborne illness, according to Terminx. Instead, discard it pronto.
