UK Doctor Revived a Baby After Grandma Said to Check on Her. Parents Didn’t Believe Him: ‘Thanks for Stopping by on Your Way to Heaven’
Hospitals welcome life and bear witness to death in its halls. Dr. Ahmed (@gamingdocmbbs) was approached by a grandma who asked him to check on her grandchild. What seemed to be a part of a regular, 36-hour shift left him speechless at the end.
“Hospitals are the scariest places ever,” Ahmed, an accident and emergency doctor from the UK, said on TikTok. He recalled how he had been going around clinics and had just settled in the nurse’s station. Then, an elderly lady came into view, wearing a white shawl and a lace dupatta around her neck.
She introduced herself to Ahmed and the nurses as the paternal grandma of the baby in bed six.
“He’s got a fever. Can you please check on him?” The woman asked. At first, Ahmed found the request strange. The baby she was referring to had undergone cleft palate surgery and was already discharged. Ahmed assumed that there was nothing infectious about the child, but he and the nurses went to check on the baby anyway. A baby that has a fever after the surgery would require immediate medical attention.
“I check the baby. The baby is warm. He doesn’t have a fever,” Ahmed said. He paused. “He also is not breathing.” This situation immediately alarmed Ahmed because he also found out that the baby had no pulse.
Grandma stopped by to save her grandchild
Ahmed recalled his own panicked thought in the moment: “Give me the doctor right now! Oh f—, I am the doctor!” He started doing chest compressions on the baby, and after an hour of attending to the child, he and the rest of the medical staff were able to resuscitate the baby.
“Thankfully with babies, their hearts are fresh, moist, and juicy. They like to beat, they want to beat. They are very hard to die. They, you know, live free and die hard like Bruce Willis,” he joked about the situation. But after saving the child, he and the staff had to debrief the family about what happened and what could have gone wrong.
“Thank God your mother was there to tell us about the fever,” said one of the senior nurses to the father of the child. If the grandma had not informed them about the fever, it would have been too late to save the child.
Unexpectedly, the father of the baby broke down in tears. Ahmed remembered the mother of the baby looking angrily at them, as if she could not believe they would say such a thing.
“Guys, the grandmother… She passed away a few hours ago in a hospital across town.” Ahmed was aghast when he found out. It seemed incredible, but he was not the only person that saw the woman. The five nurses with him remembered what she looked like and what she was wearing.
“Well, thank you for stopping by on your way to heaven, I guess,” Ahmed said, confused by the situation.
A guardian angel
Although the situation was spooky, many people on social media poked fun at the situation. One commenter wrote, “We so short staffed, even the spirits have to take turns helping us.”
Another said, “She got to the gate, saw the baby in line and went “uh no” and came back.”
But one also mentioned the real horror story in the scenario, “The most frightening part of this is that we’re still having doctors working 36 hour shifts.”
Other commenters recalled their own paranormal experiences at the hospital, talking about how they’d seen relatives who had passed away to visit them. A TikTok user commented, “After my daughter was born, I woke up to see my grandmother standing over her in the hospital room, and then she smiled at me and then my phone rang and it was my dad telling me she passed away.”
Despite the creepy undertone of the story, others found the story rather comforting—that a grandmother’s last act before supposedly crossing over was to look out for her grandchild.
