Wedding Baker Saw Something Marriage Ending at the Reception: 'She Cried in Silence.'

Weddings aren’t always romantic. People can party too hard, make dubious vows, and say things they’ll regret. But what one groom did to his bride left Manila (@manila.333), the wedding baker, heartbroken.

“I’m sure you guys have seen those videos of the groom kind of smashing the bride’s face against the cake,” Manila told TikTok. She witnessed exactly that scenario.

“I was told to bring in the cake a lot later than normal. Not my wedding, not my choice,” she recalled at the time. When the day arrived, Manila brought the cake into the venue.

“If I knew this, I would probably choose not to make their cake for them,” she said. Manila alleged that the cake was cut with a sword. After they had cut the first line, the groom supposedly took his wife’s head and smashed her face against the cake.

“I remember them telling me that they didn’t want fondant, because fondant kind of hardens… And buttercream is a lot softer,” Manila explained. The groom had apparently been insisting and reminding her to use buttercream. What unsettled Manila wasn’t just how the groom plotted to do this to his newlywed wife but how he did it.

“It wasn’t in a playful way,” she claimed, describing the scenario as abrupt and brutal. She continued, “Like, very vengeful. But maybe that’s just me.” Manila would later say that the top half of the cake fell with how strongly he slammed his wife’s head against it.

What not to do on a wedding

But it seems Manila wasn’t the only person to feel distraught by the scenario before her. The wife was visibly disappointed when it happened.

“She was so unhappy,” Manila noted. She sympathized with the bride, explaining that the woman had meticulously done her makeup and did her best to look beautiful for her own wedding, only for it to be ruined by her husband, who wanted to play an inconsiderate prank on her.

Manila remembered that it was only 8:00 p.m. when the bride’s makeup and hair got ruined. Oddly enough, the groom even invited Manila to watch the cake smash happen. But she wasn’t laughing, as Manila felt that it was “so wrong” when the bride looked so distraught.

She saw the bride cry on her way to the bridal room to get her makeup retouched.

“I just remember looking back and seeing the groom laughing with his friends, and they were like, dancing, and I’m pretty sure he had a lot to drink as well. That, right there, is like already in my eyes, a failed marriage,” she judged. But Manila continues, “Why are you not following her out?”

Unable to stand by, Manila followed the bride to the room and asked if she was okay. The woman started crying even more. Because Manila was also a hairstylist who could do makeup, she offered to help the bride with both. Thankfully, the bride was uplifted by Manila’s help, but the baker posted the story on TikTok to talk about why she isn’t in favor of cake smashing.

A divorce-inducing “prank”

“This shouldn’t be happening, like, at all,” Manila argued. She believes that no couples should be doing this to each other on such a happy occasion. The baker also explained that because the wedding was more cultural, she thought that perhaps the bride was further pressured not to speak her mind—not to act offended in front of guests.

“So, she went and cried in silence, and no one followed her out,” Manila said, hurt for the bride. She reiterated that there’s no good reason to do a cake smash at a wedding, and many TikTok commenters in her video agree.

One wrote, “I’d DIVORCE first thing in the morning.”

A commenter, who claimed to be a wedding photographer, weighed in. They commented, “When I was a photographer, twice grooms whispered to me that he was going to do something and could I be sure to film that. I refused, stated why I wouldn’t and on both occasions told the bride.”

Meanwhile, a wife who had the opposite experience, also shared her story. She said, “My husband’s family all wanted him to do this. I asked beforehand please don’t do this to me and he said “why would I do that to you?”. We’ve been married 12 yrs. If a man loves and cares for you he wouldn’t do something like this.”

It’s unclear if the couple split after the event. Regardless, the whole act got the internet upset.
