Long-distance relationships require trust. They generally work best when your boyfriend isn’t accidentally exposing his cheating tendencies during a FaceTime call.

One woman says she was chatting with her boyfriend as he boarded a flight to Italy when something caught her eye. No, not on his face, but the reflection of his black Ray-Bans.

The result is a screenshot so absurd that viewers are calling it a once-in-a-lifetime betrayal. After all, getting caught cheating by a pair of sunglasses has to be one of the most technologically advanced self-owns the dating world has ever seen.

How Did She Catch Her Boyfriend Cheating?

The 2026 dating scene is already bad enough; now add long-distance, and you might have a cocktail for disaster.

Ava (@avabella25) is simultaneously getting consoled and commended for what a viewer calls “an original experience.” Enough of a bizarre experience to catch the eye of 847,000 viewers, especially considering it’s only a screenshot.

The picture itself was taken during FaceTime. Ava’s boyfriend’s face takes up most of the screen. He’s wearing black Ray-Ban sunglasses. In the bottom right-hand corner, her face is frozen in disbelief. Why?

Her text overlay says it all in just 12 words: “POV: on ft with my Italian boyfriend and he’s scrolling on hinge.”

Sure enough, he is. Blatant enough to be seen even in a screenshot. In her caption, Ava shares troubling info: “@Ray-Ban out here doing Gods work. Mind u my flight to visit him in Europe leaves in 3 days…”

Is Using Dating Apps Considered Cheating?

As one would know, Hinge is quite notorious in cheating stories, but overall, dating apps usually are. Partners try to be covert and hide it, while others, when caught, say it isn’t cheating. Or, they use the excuse that it wasn’t anything physical.

However, Bustle conducted a survey in 2017 among 3,500 college students about whether being on dating apps counted as cheating or not. Over 60% of those said they did consider it cheating. In the piece, dating coach Samantha Burns shares her opinions on people who have dating apps while being in an exclusive relationship.

“I find this ‘just looking’ mentality extremely concerning,” she says. “You may try to convince yourself it’s just for fun, you’re bored, or you want an ego boost, but your intentions aren’t really that innocent.”

Either way, Ava definitely sees it as cheating and says as much.

Viewers are in Disbelief

One of the top comments simply states their disbelief, saying, “You’re [expletive] lying.” Ava replies, “I wish I was!”

A second viewer says, “I’m so embarrassed for him I’m dead.” While another calls him a “[expletive] idiot.”

One viewer asks for key information, begging, “Let us know if you end up going mama.” Ava replies, “Oh im still going.. just not to see him.”

One viewer even shares an uncannily similar experience, saying, “This was me last summer with my Italian ex LMAOOO 2 weeks before my flight back.” Ava responds with, “Is this just like a thing?”

Finally, one viewer says, “Looks like you’re having a fun SOLO trip to euro.”
