Glen Powell’s Netflix Hit Is Taking on a New Case

Glen Powell as Gary Johnson in 'Hit Man'

Anyone who’s watched Scream Queens and Anyone but You can confirm that Glen Powell has range. But many fans of the American actor will argue that his best film is Hit Man, and it seems that Netflix agrees, as they’ve offered Powell the chance to bring a series to the streaming platform based on the romantic crime comedy.

As per Collider, the streaming stalwarts are developing a new show based on the 2023 movie, with Powell and the original film’s director Richard Linklater serving as producers. Linklater is a legendary name in Hollywood, directing hits like the Before trilogy and Dazed and Confused.

Hit Man follows Gary Johnson (Powell), an unassuming college professor who has a side gig working with the police in sting operations. When the undercover cop who usually pretends to be a hitman to scupper murder-for-hire attempts is pulled off the force, Gary finds himself going into the field in his place, and pretending he’s a cold-blooded killer.

He excels in his new role, but soon he’s contacted by the bewitching Madison (Adria Arjona), a woman who is desperate to escape her abusive husband by having him killed. A smitten Gary advises her against following through, and then begins a relationship with her. What follows is absurd, hilarious, dark, and even sweet in many parts, but most of all it’s a cracking film that has rightfully gained some devoted fans.

The movie itself finishes with Gary and Madison in the midst of doing something very illegal, before flash forwarding to a happy, wholesome ending. So one immediate question about the series is whether it will be set between those two contrasting points, or after the events of the film. Fans will have to wait a long time to find out the answer to that question and any others they have, with the series still in the early stages of development.
