Aussie Woman Moves to a New Neighborhood, Visits a Salon for a Blow Dry, Then Vows to Never Visit Again: ‘I Would Have Stood Up and Left, Girl’
The most important thing a woman can have- next to talent, of course- is her hairdresser

Moving into a new place can be stressful and complicated. It’s almost like starting your life over, especially if you’ve lived in your previous area for several years.
TikTok user @lashupmastery’s experience after moving into a new Australian neighborhood was anything but pleasant. In a video she uploaded to her account a day ago, she talks about visiting a salon for the first time since moving, emphasizing that it didn’t go as she planned. Based on how the staff behaved with her, especially the person working on her hair, she felt they were being passive-aggressive. She also questioned their overall etiquette, including how they treated other customers, and said it wasn’t respectful.
TikTok user @lashupmastery recounts unpleasant salon experience
Just a day ago, @lashupmastery uploaded a video to her account in which she spoke about going to a new salon after moving to a new neighborhood in Australia (a quick Google search reveals this information).
She mentions that she had a 10 am appointment at this salon and was supposed to get a blow-dry, which she routinely gets every week as a form of self-care because she enjoys them. When she arrived at the salon, the woman at reception looked visibly hungover and didn’t do small talk with her, as usually happens in salons, so she had to initiate a conversation. However, the receptionist gave very vague answers, as if she wasn’t interested in talking. Then the woman asked Taylah what she could do for her. Taylah didn’t understand why she asked that, because there was no one else at the reception, and she had arrived around her appointment time.
When Taylah went inside, she was not offered anything, unlike in every salon she had been to before. As she got her hair done, her stylist didn’t engage in any conversation, which Taylah found weird because she was a first-time customer, and according to unspoken rules, staff should be trying to build a relationship through talking. She also says that the stylist asked Taylah if she had any plans later that day, which is why she was getting her hair done. When Taylah replied no and said she liked getting them once a week, the stylist told the whole salon, “Wouldn’t that be nice to just be bored on a Saturday and go get your hair done?” Then, her salon visit became a topic of conversation in the room, making her feel very uncomfortable as an introvert. She thought her hairdresser was passive-aggressive.
Taylah also recounts another incident that day that made her feel weird. When her stylist was styling her hair, she mentioned how she wanted it to look and suggested she should have brought a photo for a better understanding. The stylist again, very passively-aggressively, told Taylah she “should have,” which made her think about leaving. But as she revealed in her video, she couldn’t because she had already paid a deposit. Afterward, the stylists talked among themselves, with none engaging with customers. One also recounted a hookup she had, which traumatized Taylah. Overall, she didn’t have a pleasant experience and says she is searching for a new salon, as she won’t be returning.
People have a lot to say about @lashupmastery’s TikTok video
@lashupmastery’s TikTok video has gained significant attention from netizens, and they have left comments on her video. Many people shared what they would have done if faced with a similar situation as Taylah’s. User @jjaesie said, “I would have stood up and left girl.” User @emz1601 wrote, “So unprofessional.. I’d be speaking to the manager or owner.”
Many people who work at hair salons also weighed in on the incident. User @emilyjean.xoxo wrote, “As a hairdresser I am mortified.” User @chemocrownsandhairloss said, “As a salon owner this wouldn’t fly in my salon.. you’re not expecting too much and you didn’t even get the bare minimum.”
Your hairdresser may not always want to talk
An article by Refinery 29 published on September 6, 2023, reports that a July 2023 study by L’Oréal Professionnel found hairstylists spend about 2,000 hours annually listening to clients. The survey of 1,750 hair professionals revealed that 65% have faced anxiety, burnout, or depression in their careers. Despite these striking findings, the industry lacks formal training to help stylists handle challenging conversations and establish boundaries with clients, as noted by the article.
So the next time you visit a salon and book an appointment with your hairdresser, be mindful that they might not always be able to listen to your life’s problems because, who knows, they might be dealing with something too, or simply not be in the mindset to listen. They are humans too and deserve compassion.
