Woman gets married. Then a wedding guest commits a major wedding faux pas. Now people are defending him

There’s a long list of things you’re not supposed to do at someone else’s wedding. Ask anyone, and they’d say that hijacking the bouquet toss with your own proposal is usually somewhere near the top.
So when one bride appeared to handpick a guest before a surprise proposal unfolded in the middle of her reception, the internet reacted exactly as you’d expect. There’s outrage, secondhand embarrassment, and a lot of “this is so tacky.”
But then came the plot twist no one saw coming: the bride wanted it to happen. Because apparently this wasn’t a rogue boyfriend stealing the spotlight; it was a mother helping orchestrate her daughter’s engagement… and somehow the internet is still fighting about it.
What Happened at This Wedding?
It’s seldom that a wholesome wedding story is covered. Usually, the Mary Sue reveals horror stories about sky-high venu quotes to family members ruining either the party or even the dress. Luckily for Miranda (@bairwithmiranda), her story isn’t as dramatic.
At least, not to her.
Her clip currently has 1.6 million views and over 1,000 comments. It’s a video taken at her wedding reception, capturing the moment she (the bride) is about to throw the bouquet backwards into the group of waiting women. Miranda dances a bit and then feigns throwing the bouquet a couple of times before she decidedly turns around and starts walking to the women instead.
She makes a beeline for a woman dressed in a black, elegant gown and hands her the bouquet. Behind them, the crowd parts to let a man through, and he kneels on one knee behind the two women. Miranda kisses her on the cheek and gestures for her to turn around. When she does, she faces her kneeling boyfriend and looks quite surprised. The video ends with the couple hugging.
Is it Rude to Propose at Someone Else’s Wedding?
This is a topic heavily debated for decades. Apparently, according to Miranda’s viewers, there’s no middle ground. For them, proposing at anyone else’s wedding is a major faux pas that cannot be forgiven.
However, some cut corners with special cases. In 2020, The Wedding Club spoke on this issue. While they outlined certain cons that come with proposing at someone else’s wedding, there are situations where it would be considered OK.
“If the proposal has been pre arranged with the bride and groom then yes you can consider this their approval,” the article states. “It can be rather sweet, especially if the bride and groom are super close to the couple… It may be a moment that they want to share and remember together, forever.”
Case in point, Miranda and her daughter. In her caption, Miranda shares, “Sharing this moment with my daughter was everything I could ever imagine at our wedding. My baby is ENGAGED!!”
As happy as she is, some viewers still have something to say.

Viewers Hate The Idea
Even knowing the situation, some viewers do not change their views. “Not sharing my day with anyone he would have had to propose later,” says one. Miranda replies, “It was my idea and I wanted to share it with my DAUGHTER.”
A second viewer claims, “I’m not doing that at my wedding..people find ur own moments..right now its my day!!!” Similarly, another viewer shares, “I don’t like that. It’s her wedding, it should be her day. Why would anyone want to have the shine on someone else.”
Of course, many stood up for Miranda. The top comment with over 9,000 likes states, “As a girl mom, there is nothing that would make me happier than sharing this moment with my very best friend.”
Miranda responds, “Oh ABSOLUTELY. It was so special for me to share this with her.”
A second viewer says, “This is the only appropriate dynamic to do this with btw.”
