NYC Target shopper notices something off about Wild Fable jeans, then he apologizes after learning the truth: ‘I was not prepared’

For decades, distressed jeans have remained a fashion staple among generations. Frayed, faded, and small-rip style, there are several to choose from to provide the vintage aesthetic. While style is subjective, there are some that have you questioning its authenticity.
A particular pair of Wild Fable jeans did it for this Target shopper. He attributed its bizarre design to an employee mistake.
A Wild Discovery At Target
While standing in the apparel section, NYC Target customer Marc (@verifiedbluecheckmarc) shares a discovery he stumbled upon at his store.
“Did someone have an accident opening the box of these jeans?” he asks, focusing on a stack of Wild Fable light wash jeans with a deep gouge on the outer thigh.
“I’m a Millennial. I get distrust denim but these,” he adds, flipping through each pair in the stack, the rip growing smaller with each one. “Just have a slit on the thigh.”
When he lifts the size 10 pants, he unveils it in all its glory: there isn’t a single tear in sight except for that location. Then, he turns it to its side, peels the waistband and slides his hand into the giant opening, waving. Because of the peculiar design, the content creator consults his phone to search for ‘Wild 90s Fable Relaxed Straight 10 29″ inseam.’
Sure enough, these are legit.
“I apologize to the hypothetical employee and box cutter of this tragedy,” he says, revealing the product page in the greenscreen background.
Despite the photo evidence, Marc struggled to wrap his mind around it. “Still not convinced this was an intentional design,” he writes in the caption.
Viewers Are Just As Skeptical
Marc’s video amassed 3.6 million views, and many were on his side, finding it hard to believe the tear in the Wild Fable jeans was deliberate.
“I was 100% sure you were 100% correct,” one viewer commented.
“Definitely thought it was unintentional,” another remarked.
“I was not prepared for the truth,” a third stated.
“Horrendous! I would have bet someone cut them with a box cutter,” a fourth said.
“I think products are ‘bad’ when you can’t tell if something like that was a mistake or not,” a fifth noted.
Are These Still Available At Target?
A Google search failed to show the jeans on the retailer’s website. Only the 90’s Mid-Rise Relaxed Straight Jeans in Light Wash and Medium Wash in sizes 00-17 popped up. Since each store varies, it tailors to the needs of its community. Hence, one Target may carry these specific Wild Fable pants, while another may not. However, they are available on eBay in a 16 blue for $18.20, brand-new with the original tags.
