Planet Fitness manager catches North Carolina man with wedding ring in tanning room—with a woman. So they call his emergency contact

Gyms can be a great place to socialize with other people, even when it’s least expected. A simple conversation can turn into a gym buddy or a genuine friendship outside of the normal grind. Gyms, though, can also be a breeding ground for new relationships, or a common ground for two people who have a salacious relationship to have a somewhat public area to see each other.
One TikToker told a story he encountered while working at a Planet Fitness that fit the latter definition. He and a manager at a location in his hometown caught a man with an engagement or wedding ring cheating red-handed in a tanning salon.
The content creator, Coleman (@colemantalkstoomuch), regularly posts storytime content to his page. His description of this particular incident received 1.2 million views on his page, with commenters chiming in to let him know that he “casually” ended someone’s marriage.
Two individuals go to the tanning bed together and walk out together?
While on shift, Coleman and a manager working at Planet Fitness noticed that a man—who was clearly either engaged or married—was going to the tanning bed quite often. Coleman worked 6 a.m. shifts to 1 or 2 p.m. each day. He began to notice a regular cadence in which this particular man would go into the gym and have a tanning bed session.
He also noticed that a woman was coming into the gym around the same time as the man. This didn’t bother Coleman at first. He figured it was just a coincidence.
During one particular shift, Coleman’s boss let him know not to allow guests to enter the tanning bed room together. She happened to notice that there were two people who seemed like they were going in together, so she told Coleman to keep an eye out.
Over the next couple of days, Coleman realized the man who was engaged and the woman who came in at the same time were going into the same room for tanning appointments. Coleman and his manager quickly figured out that the two were going into the room for more than just tanning. A co-worker also heard a complaint about “moaning” in the rooms, but no other guests seconded the claim.
They realized they would have to suspend the man’s membership, as he was abusing their policies. When Coleman’s manager went to call the man, he wasn’t available. So, she went ahead and called his emergency contact, who had the exact same last name as him.
Coleman’s manager calls the man’s wife
The manager proceeded to call the woman with the same last name as the man and let her know about the affair. It became very clear early into the call that the woman was his wife, not just a sister or other potential emergency contact.
The manager explained very briefly that the woman’s husband violated their policies by having more than one person in the tanning beds. She managed to covertly hint that he was there with another woman. The wife on the phone immediately said that “ he’s about to get his a– whooped.” Then, she hung up on the line.
The story may have ended there, but Coleman ended up switching Planet Fitness locations about a month and a half after that incident. At his new Planet Fitness, he noticed that the man was there with his affair partner. He wasn’t wearing his wedding ring while running on the treadmill.
Commenters weigh in
A few commenters had some thoughts about the Planet Fitness affair, including that workers pick up on everything. A worker at a fast food chain will pick up an argument spoken directly into the drive-thru mic. A server at a restaurant might just notice the third or fourth partner a person brings in for dinner. Similarly, an employee at a gym is going to notice extra guests, wives, husbands, and occasional gym buddies.
Despite this, many people still go to public spaces, even when there’s a reasonable expectation that they remain covert. Affairs sometimes move through levels of risk-taking. At first, a person engaging in an affair might not send a flirtatious text asking to meet at the Planet Fitness tanning beds. But, after a while, flippant behavior generally grows.
At the very least, that can lead to some cheaters getting caught rather quickly. “I don’t think people realize how often employees pick up on things,” one commenter said. “They think they’re so slick.”
