Florida woman says she’s done with dating apps. So she goes to Home Depot looking for a contractor: ‘6am-8am at the latest’

If dating apps are where romance goes to die, apparently the next stop is… the lumber aisle at 7:30 a.m. Fed up with swiping, one Florida woman decided to try a more “organic” approach: showing up at Home Depot during peak contractor hours, armed with a vague need for help and a very specific goal.

The plan? Flawless in theory. In reality? Let’s just say the aisles were a little quieter than expected. Some contractors are now gleeful in the comments with the new trend. Others… not so much.

Is This a New Trend?

As odd as it sounds, it’s not particularly new. For the past few years, women have tried going to Home Depot and acting confused or in need of help so they could talk to potential love interests. In 2023, Business Insider reported that it had been going on for at least two years, meaning way back in 2021.

In another article, they even share the “best aisles” to find your future soulmate. What’s more interesting is that it has worked for some people. The Today Show interviewed a single mom who found her now-boyfriend by following what the “TikTok girlies” said. She went to Home Depot and made the courageous decision to approach a man and ask for advice on how to hang a picture frame. After a bit of small talk, he asked for her number. They went on a first date (where he got her flowers) and realized they had a lot in common. The rest, of course, is history.

Why Did She Go To Home Depot?

Michelle (@serendipity.success) seems to be in a similar boat with all the ladies who have tried the trend. Her trial and report have led to over 380,000 views and almost 2,600 comments on her TikTok.

Her text overlay reads: “Let’s go search for love at Home Depot.” She begins the clip referencing the trend, and apparently her father said that contractors usually go to Home Depot between 6 and 10 a.m. Ever the opportunist, Michelle decides to go at 7:30 the next morning. She says her father pushed her to try as well. She does clarify that she still does need help, so she’s not faking being there for only a date.

“So yeah,” Michelle says, “I’m just gonna find a cute guy and ask him to help me.”

Did She Succeed?

The video cuts to Michelle in the Home Depot parking lot, nervous to venture in. She comments that there might not be many people there and she might have to go to the Lowe’s that’s beside it.

Before she leaves the car, Michelle chuckles and rhetorically asks, “What am I doing with my life?” The clip cuts again and viewers can see Michelle’s empty cart pushing through even emptier aisles. Apparently, there doesn’t seem to be any contractors in that Home Depot.

The camera turns perspectives and Michelle makes a sad face, commenting that no one is there. She laughs and says she has to “figure it out” herself now, meaning the original thing she needed help with. She makes a last attempt and heads into Lowe’s. The outcome? The same as Home Depot… meaning not much.

The video ends with Michelle surmising: “I think everyone took Friday off.”

‘We like being single and happy’

As most things on the internet go, Michelle’s comments section contains two sides of the spectrum. Some men did not like the idea of being approached at a Home Depot. “If I’m at Home Depot or Lowe’s. Leave me alone please,” says a comment with over 800 likes.

Another even claims, “Please don’t, we like being single and happy.”

On the other hand, one viewer says, “I’m usually in the electrical section.” While a second one shares, “I might go to Home Depot and see if I can find a wife.”

Other men in the comments give Michelle tips. One viewer says, “Home Depot during the work week. BUT dont be vague. Tell him you would like to go out on a date. Communication is key.”

“We get our parts between 6-7am,” says another. One viewer says, “Friday is the worst day to be there. Definitely first of the week type deal.”

Finally, one viewer asks Michelle if she’s had any luck yet. Her reply? “None lol.”
