‘Top Gun 3’ Officially Confirmed for the Third Time at CinemaCon

Back in 2024, my dreams came true. It was told to us all that Top Gun 3 was happening. There wasn’t really an update since but we knew from a lot of sources it was happening and being worked on. So Paramount saying today that Top Gun 3 is in the works was not exactly news. Yet many took it as such.

Did I feel insane looking at the sheer amount of excited responses to this news? Yes. Because so many people had talked about it. Joseph Kosinski opened up to GQ last summer about his ideas for the film. Then he even talked about the script going through the draft process. Paramount spoke about it during the merger.

I even spoke with Lewis Pullman about the news way back in 2024. So I was shocked to see people posting about this as if it was “news.” Yes, as our Rachel Tolleson pointed out to me when I was confused that the studio itself saying it was “officially underway” is different than the creatives doing it but still, every news on Paramount and its mergers have talked about this. It was not a secret.

I get it. Really, I do. Standing up at a presentation and talking about Top Gun 3 is a big deal. Especially to me, I love this franchise. But I just thought it was Paramount saying like “Hey, you guys know this is happening too” but everyone online is acting like their brand new to this news.

At the end of the day, I’m just excited for more Top Gun

The homoerotic nature of the first Top Gun movie defined a generation. Then, Top Gun: Maverick saved movie theaters. And also had a homoerotic dogfight football scene. And a homoerotic fight between Rooster (Miles Teller) and Hangman (Glen Powell). So can’t wait to see what homoerotic thing the third film is going to bring to us.

But the franchise continues to give us so much to love. Like “Take My Breath Away” and “Hold My Hand.” With iconic ballads, a need for speed, and very high stakes, there is so much to love about the Top Gun films. So on the one hand, I’m happy people were born today to this Top Gun news. But also I just needed to make sure I was not insane in thinking the “TOP GUN OFFICIALLY IN THE WORKS” posts.
