A Utah woman says a Brigham-Young University (BYU) student persistently asked her out at the gym. When she gives him a chance he does something creepy, leading her to post a now-viral PSA on TikTok to other women.

In a video with over 25,000 views, TikToker Nayrina Redd (@nayrina_redd) says the man asks her out every time he sees her at the gym. She eventually gave him her phone number when she lost her gym key fob, hoping he would contact her if he found it.

“I just thought [he’s] innocent or whatever,” she says. “After that, he kept texting me all the time. I kept saying no.”

Redd insists that the man “would not know what to do with [her]” and agrees to go to Dutch Bros with him. He orders a chocolate milk and makes a bold request.

What did the BYU student ask her to do?

“He’s like, ‘We should make out,'” Redd recounts. “He keeps insisting.” She’s surprised by this request, as mormon dating rules encourage followers of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to avoid sexual contact and kissing until marriage.

Then, he stops the car and asks Redd to get in the back seat.

“I know things that have happened to other girls who have gone out with this type of guy,” she says. “I’m not scared at all. I can just feel the pressure that he’s trying to put on me.”

Redd messages the mormon man as soon as she gets home from the awkward interaction, blasting him for putting pressure on her to make out with him.

The message reads, “I will tell you something that may be helpful in the future. When you ask to make out in the back and a girl says no, it’s a no. No means no. You shouldn’t ask again or insist. That’s a violation of consent.”

Redd says she showed her attorney the messages but wasn’t clear if she was seeking legal advise on the situation. In other videos on her page, she explains that her attorney is also her child’s father.

“We were just laughing at the whole situation because this guy would not know what to do with me. He would be praying for repentance and just feeling so bad about himself,” she says.

Redd ends the video with a PSA for other women going out with BYU students. She says, “Don’t let them get your water. Don’t let them touch your food. Guarding your drink is not just for the club.”

How did commenters react?

Commenters share split reactions to Redd’s story. Some say she should have physically defended herself against the man as soon as he kept insisting on making out.

“Crazy how this world is now. You should have kicked him in the balls after he told you to jump in the back lol,” one says.

“He deserves his a– beat,” another writes.

However, others suggest that Redd should have kept avoiding his propositions to hang out, blaming her for the situation.

“Learn to never put yourself in that position. Young men are always going to have the most amt of testosterone and are actively looking for Sex. Plan better you will be fine,” a commenter remarks. Then, Redd claps back.

The TikToker pushes back

Redd responds to the comment, writing, “I do not care what he wanted. It was not a date. We went to get chocolate milk. Girls are getting roofied on dates. YOU HAVE TO STOP VICTIM BLAMING.”

She also makes a follow-up video responding to the comment, encouraging viewers not to victim-blame. She explains that she’s jaded after one of her close LDS friends was roofied by a man she met on a Mormon dating app, thinking they were on the same page about nothing sexual happening on the date.

“The only reason I texted that guy back about consent was for the girls. To protect other girls,” she says.

The caption reads, “GUARD YOUR FOOD AND DRINKS ON DATES no matter how clean cut and Mormon-y he looks.”
