There are some places in this world where you expect complete and total privacy, and one of them is a gynecologist’s office.

If it’s your first time, especially, it’s normal to feel awkward with a stranger getting so up close and personal, without another unexpected guest entering the mix.

But that’s exactly what happened to one woman during her first-ever pap smear appointment.

TikTok creator Erin (@erin29h) shared the experience in a video that went viral with over 5.9 million views.

What Happened During the Pap Smear?

“POV going for my first Pap smear and we have a guest!” she wrote in the video’s text overlay.

In the clip, she records herself wearing a hospital gown, looking visibly mortified. Behind her, a man can be seen outside the window, suspended and cleaning the exterior windows of the hospital building.

She added some more details in the caption. “The doctor and I were dying of laughter,” she wrote. “The visitor left before the stirrups came out thank god.”

Hundreds of Jokes Ensued In The Comments

In the comments section, some users joked about it, and others said they couldn’t imagine being in that position.

“Oh no worries he’s a medical student,” one person wrote.

“That’s a free second opinion,” another added.

“So this is my nightmare,” a third wrote.

Others shared similar experiences.

“This happened while I was giving BIRTH!!” another said.

Erin later added more context in the comments.

“Guys this doctor is amazing. I love her and have gone to her for 7 years,” she explained. “These windows have tint and are mirror. They have tested it out and you cannot see in. By the time it was my turn the guy had moved all the way to the bottom floor.”

How Often Are Hospital Windows Cleaned?

According to a blog post by Detroit Sponge, how frequently building exteriors get cleaned depends on location, whether they’re near construction, weather conditions, and more.

For healthcare facilities, areas like lobbies, entranceways, and patient-facing windows are typically cleaned more frequently, sometimes monthly.

Exterior window cleans, like the one Erin showed in her video, are performed less often, around twice a year on average.

That means she likely caught a pretty specific moment.

However, as Erin explained, hospitals typically use treated or tinted glass in patient areas to maintain privacy, so patients aren’t visible from the outside.
