‘Is this rage bait’: Guest finds the ‘perfect fit’ for wedding. There’s just 1 problem—and people were quick to tell her

A woman posted a cute outfit she was going to wear to a wedding. But, she didn’t expect the backlash she ended up getting for it.
Shaq (@shaquiahmackie) a TikToker based in Gold Coast, Australia, shared a video of her in a fit she intended to wear to a friend’s wedding. Viewers, however, did not approve of the strapless top she wanted to wear.
That’s because in her video with over 1.4 million views, the top she wanted to wear appeared cream—not canary yellow or pastel. Commenters urged the TikToker to reconsider the dress or even dye it for the occasion, as they thought it would be an incredibly rude fit for someone’s special day. Despite this, Shaq did attend the wedding with the fit, revealing that it was more yellow in different lighting compared to her original post.
Commenters see the yellow fit and think it’s white
At first, commenters were confused as to whether Shaq was trying to wear the fit to HER wedding or to another person’s. While her asymmetrical top was incredibly cute, the color looked cream in her post. It was simply too close to white based on her original post, which had many commenters begging Shaq to reconsider. Many viewers added that if she were to wear the dress to someone’s wedding, it would be an immediate “no-go.”
“Listen I understand you say it’s yellow but it’s not yellow enough for a wedding,” one commenter said. “I thought you were wearing something casual to YOUR wedding.”
“So cute but in any other color,” one viewer shared. “You can buy dye on Amazon. I’d lose it if someone showed up to my wedding in white arguing it’s yellow tint. Pls be fr and respectful.”
Is yellow too close to white?
Typically, brides are the only ones who are supposed to wear something even close to it. But, in recent history, canary yellow—which looks remarkably close to white in certain lights—has made a splash at weddings.
Wedding photographers and other professionals generally recommend that those attending weddings not wear anything pastel yellow, light yellow, or canary yellow. That’s partially because even if it doesn’t look white in certain lighting, it can look white in photographs. That creates huge complications for the photographers, who then have to edit these yellow dresses to have a bit more pop.
Shaq shared some photos from the wedding she attended, where the dress had a more obvious yellow glow. It distinctly stood out when compared to the bride’s white dress and definitely did not appear as “cream.” But the situation still led to some heated debate in the comments about the color.
“You knew exactly what you were doing with the lighting in the other video tho,” one commenter said. Shaq replied, saying, “It’s not that deep haha – I was just showing off the fit – didn’t expect such a backlash due to the colouring it showed in the only video I had taken.”
