A woman booked an appointment with CP Styles, a Baltimore hair salon, driving seven hours for a last-minute treatment that ended up getting canceled only two hours before the booking would begin.

When TikToker Lynasja Monei (@Lynasjamonei) tried to communicate with the hairstylist, she ended up receiving the news that the business owner had died in the family. Monei then tried to get her deposit back from the lead hair stylist at CP styles (@cpstyless_ on Instagram). However, she got word that she’s at a “last-minute funeral” from her assistant.

Prior to this, the stylist told her, “I don’t care about a hair class this bad when something like this happens.” In response, Monei posted her experience to TikTok, which has since garnered over 541,000 views on the platform.

Her experience with CP Styles

Monei emphasized that no one should book with CP Styles in the near future after experiencing what she went through. The young professional is originally from Boston, with her own hair styling business. For that reason, she ended up staying up until 1 a.m. working with clients and got little sleep in preparation for her “1-on-1” with CP Styles.

At around 4 a.m., Monei picked up her cousin and started a seven-hour drive toward Baltimore for her appointment with the hairstylist. At around 7 a.m., she sent the stylist a message to let her know that she would be around 15 minutes late due to traffic, but that she had every intention of going to the appointment.

The hair stylist then texted back at around 8:16 a.m. with a message that had bewildered Monei. She asked to reschedule the “1-on-1” to a different day entirely.

By this point, Monei had already been on the road for hours. So, she let the stylist know that she had been on the road for five hours already and that the reschedule would be highly inconvenient.

“Is [there] a way I can call you or something,” Monei asked, “I’m currently on the highway [and] this is a big inconvenience.” Monei then asked the hairstylist to clarify whether she was going to make it to the appointment.

The stylist snapped back, “I’m not that’s why I said reschedule. I had a death in my family, I’m sorry for inconveniencing you.”

Monei responded by implying it was somewhat rude to wait two hours before the appointment to let her know about the situation. But, she let the situation go and asked for her deposit back.

Monei asks for her deposit back

After learning that her appointment was indeed canceled, Monei asked for her deposit back. The stylist indicated that she could, but when Monei sent her Cash App information, the hairdresser texted back, “Like what do you mean I wait two hours before. Like you [expletive] be inconsiderate as [expletive] like truly its sad just how y’all have lives and [expletive] happens the same way I do. Like I don’t care about a hair class this bad when something like this happens.”

Monei thought the response was especially callous, considering she had driven five hours for the appointment by that time. On top of that, when she let the business’s Instagram account know about her possible 15-minute delay, an assistant replied, saying that the hairstylist was at a “last-minute funeral” and would have to reschedule.

Monei found this extremely difficult to believe. Most people, based on her experience, don’t go to funerals at the last minute. “ So did your [expletive] family member die already? Or did they just die today? Because if you’re at a funeral, they’ve been dead and you could have just been said this and not waste my [expletive] time.”

She shared that on top of calling her an “[expletive]” via text, the stylist ultimately never paid her back for the deposit.  Monei concluded by captioning her video, “Never booking a 1on1 again! So unprofessional & a big waste of time!!

CP Styles–an alleged history of bad booking practices

While most of Monei’s audience were entirely unfamiliar with CP Styles, a few commenters had previous experiences with the stylist that were less than positive.

According to some, CP styles have previously made up excuses or reasons to miss appointments in the past, even not showing up for booked appointments as they were happening.

“Omg she didn’t show up to my morning appointment for my birthday and she said she texted me at 5am canceling because she has food poisoning,” one commenter shared. “[She] then hid me from her story ( we don’t even follow each other) and posted her doing someone else’s hair.”

Commenters ask why she drove so far

While many viewers were incredibly sympathetic to Monei’s plight, others pointed out that she was driving seven hours for her appointment. That wasn’t something that her hairstylist was likely aware of. Nor was it something that she necessarily could factor into the situation at large with CP styles.

But Monei revealed in the comments that a large reason why she was traveling so far was to take a class. According to some other viewers, it’s incredibly difficult to find hairstylists who offer one-on-one classes for advanced techniques.

And, as she emphasized in the comments, Monei would “go anywhere” to perfect her craft. It was something that she wanted to do and after a long night not being able to sleep, it was even more frustrating for her not to simply complete her booking.

CP Styles responds on Instagram

On Instagram, CP Styles posted two different stories seemingly pointing toward the situation. Each repost threw shade at the situation while calling out that stylists can decline to give services to clients “at any time.”

On CP Styles’ Instagram account, she has a deposit policy which states, “HALF OR FULL PAYMENT DUE WHILE SCHEDULING. NON REFUNDABLE CASH ONLY FOR REMAINING BALANCE IF YOU DON’T PAY IN FULL.” This policy seemingly contradicts her website’s declared policies, which state that a $20 nonrefundable deposit is due to secure an appointment.

Monei paid $50, which, in a later update, she did not clarify was paid to her at any point. Instead, Monei added that after some sleuthing, she discovered that CP Styles’ death in the family was a full month before her appointment. For that reason, she figured the hairstylist would have been able to plan ahead and ensure the appointment was fulfilled. Instead, she was seemingly left without her $50 deposit and five hours of her time and energy.
