Miami influencer goes on double date with pick-me girl and fallout over outfit choices.

Friendships are often tested when you have a company around. For one TikTok creator, a double date in Miami ended with a permanent fallout with a pick-me “friend.” All it took was a cute outfit.

TikTok creator Arianne (@itsariannetorres) is sparking a massive conversation about “pick-me” friends. In a GRWM storytime, she shared her former friend Chelsea’s toxic habits and gained over 4.3 million views. Her story speaks to everyone who has ever been subtly shaded by the very person who is supposed to be in your corner.

The ‘pick-me’ friend often weaponized the creator’s height

Arianne’s issues with Chelsea began long before the infamous double date. Every time they were around men, Chelsea would reportedly make pointed comments about Arianne being 5’9″.

in fact, she would also call her a “tree” and claim she had to “look up” at her. Arianne knew that Chelsea was trying to make herself appear smaller and more “dainty” in comparison. She described this behavior as “diabolical.” And why not, it clearly looks like a calculated move to diminish her presence in front of others.

She brought up Arianne’s ex while meeting her new boyfriend for the first time

The red flags continued when Chelsea finally met Arianne’s then-boyfriend (now fiancé). Instead of keeping the conversation respectful, Chelsea inexplicably brought up Arianne’s ex-boyfriend.

Arianne recalled that Chelsea was even “about to spill all the drama” from their past relationship. Understandably, she was stunned by the lack of loyalty. She remarked that she wouldn’t do that to her “worst enemy,” let alone a close friend during such an important introduction.

The friendship finally crumbled during a double date at a nice restaurant in Miami. Arianne arrived in a “mini skirt and a crop top,” which she felt was appropriate for the city’s fashion scene.

However, as soon as they were seated, Chelsea remarked, “I just have so much respect for my man like I could just never wear that”. The irony was not lost on Arianne, as Chelsea was wearing a “see-through mesh dress” at the time. So, she decided to give that “energy right back,” subtly shading Chelsea’s own revealing choice.

To nobody’s surprise, the dinner turned “awkward” and the friendship ended for reasons unknown to nobody. As one TikTok user judged her behavior and concluded, “She wanted your man.”

How to identify and handle toxic ‘pick-me’ friends.

If you suspect a friend is prioritizing male attention over your friendship, you can look for certain signs to confirm. First, see if they’ve been dragging you into the comparison trap. See if they constantly highlight your “masculine” or “intimidating” traits (like height) while emphasizing their own “feminine” or “submissive” qualities.

Second, notice if they sabotage introductions. If they bring up past mistakes, exes, or embarrassing stories when you are with a romantic partner, it’s a red flag. Pick-me friends also tend to have a performative modesty. They criticize your fashion choices under the guise of “respect” for their partner. Often, their choices contradict their own words.

Once you realize the “energy” is consistently negative, it may be time to cut ties. As Arianne demonstrated, protecting your peace is more important than maintaining a one-sided connection. While she continues to “slay” in Miami with her fiancé, she has left the “mesh” drama behind for good.
