A woman received a storm of criticism from MAGA for criticising the Trump administration’s cuts to SNAP benefits and other essential programs. However, that post, alongside others on the woman’s social media, ended up raising thousands of dollars for charities across the United States. Now, she’s receiving the American Nurses Association’s President’s award

“It’s almost like advocating for the communities we serve is the whole entire point. What an absolute honor it is to even be considered for this,” said Jen Hamilton (@_jen_hamilton_). She is a labor and delivery nurse whose videos on platforms like TikTok and Facebook have gotten millions of views.

In a TikTok with over 11.3 million views, she responded to a MAGA supporter’s comment. In it, they stated that she “absolutely loves Jesus” but that MAGA is “exhausted from liberal nonsense.” Hamilton read a few passages from the Bible and told her to “try reading the red words” in response.

That video attracted so much attention that Hamilton was then able to sell t-shirts for charity. MAGA supporters reported her and tried to get her nursing license revoked. But, it turns out that her social media advocacy, digital activism, and advice as a nurse to those having children earned her a prestigious award instead of a ticket out of her career pathway.

Who is Jen Hamilton?

Hamilton is a social media advocate and labor & delivery nurse with over 4.3 million followers on TikTok.

Notably, Hamilton is an outspoken critic of ICE and the Trump administration at large. She is also an outspoken Christian. While she’s normally online giving advice on labor and delivery for many families having children, she is also politically active.

Notably, Hamilton speaks out against initiatives that directly affect her patients and the people in the community she treats.

What was the context for Hamilton’s charitable donations to organizations like RAICES?

Hamilton responded to a TikTok creator named Shelly, who argued that Hamilton needs to “be careful” online. So, in Hamilton’s response, she read passages from the Bible that proved the point of her messaging.

“ For I was hungry and you fed me. I was sick and you cared for me. I was in prison and you visited me,” Hamilton said, quoting Matthew 25:35-40 in her original video. “ The king will say. ‘I tell you the truth. When you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you are doing it to me.’”

To her, the passage was much more liberal than one would potentially expect, which she pointed out in her video. She then contrasted that with the MAGA movement. Hamilton called out policies that stripped thousands of low-income households of accessing SNAP benefits or MAGA’s push to deport non-citizens in the United States. Then, as a final nail in the coffin, she posted a quote from Rev. Benjamin Cramer. The Reverend said, “Beware of any Christian movement that demands the government be an instrument of God’s wrath but never a source of God’s mercy, generosity or compassion.”

How did MAGA respond?

According to follow-up videos posted by the content creator, multiple content creators reported her account to try to revoke her nursing license. While Hamilton did not clarify just how many people reported her, commenters and viewers mentioned that multiple different MAGA followers sent messages to her local board of registered nursing as a direct result of her post.

“Reported a nurse who has compassion and empathy for human life?!” one commenter asked.

Another added that “the fact that they REPORTED YOU TO THE BOARD is insane.”

Ultimately, Hamilton did not lose her job or license. But there were serious risks to the reports, especially considering the fact that she could have had her license removed unconstitutionally.

“I hope you’re okay,” another viewer said. “I can’t imagine having your license reported repeatedly for simply just reading a few lines from the Bible.”

In response to the video’s backlash and its subsequent popularity, Hamilton created t-shirts where 100 percent of the profits would go toward multiple charities. In doing so, she ended up raising over $100,000+. She donated 25,000 each to Undies for Everyone, The Lionheart Foundation, The Navajo Water Project, Blessings in a Backpack, and RAICES. Since then, she’s also supported other creators’ initiatives.

What happened a year later?

In February 2026, Hamilton received an award from the American Nursing Association. She had won the President’s Award because her social media content “reshaped public understanding of nursing through trusted, accessible, and high-impact digital advocacy that reaches millions and elevates clinical expertise, transparency, and equity.”

Hamilton said that she was “checking in with everyone” who tried to take her nursing license away, letting them know that they didn’t take her down despite their efforts.

On that TikTok post, commenters shared how life-changing her original video really was. One viewer said, “That video was the video that made me do a 180 on my political beliefs. I cried for days after, realizing how wrong I had been all my life (I do want to add I’ve NEVER been maga). Thank you for waking me up, and helping me become a better person because of it. I am in so much awe of you.”
