So, what really happened? Nothing much, it’s just that, instead of his bag arriving as a single unit as it should on the conveyor belt, Hugh received his belongings in instalments, urging his sister to press record on her phone. The result? A hilarious one-of-a-kind moment that has amassed more than 8 million views, more than a million likes, thousands of comments, saves and shares as of this writing.

User @laysuperstar’s brother has a unique experience at Pittsburgh Airport

TikTokers cannot stop LOL’ing over the video uploaded by user @laysuperstar on January 11, 2026. Captioned, “This was the best 30 minutes of my life”, the video sees her brother, Hugh, collecting his socks and underwear “one at a time” from the baggage carousel, only to receive the whole bag later with its side pockets open.

Their reactions? Shock, amusement, and disbelief, but all of them accompanied by laughter. Funnily enough, those were the same reactions people had after watching the video. Personally, for me, I am not forgetting the video anytime soon, especially the moment where Hugh is chasing a singular sock on the belt as he almost misses it.

Whenever something achieves virality, it becomes imperative that it will be the subject of considerable discussion, and the video by user @laysuperstar did not disappoint in that department. People had a lot to say about. For instance, user @underthestars00 was curious if Hugh’s ex was behind this incident and wrote, “His ex got a job there or something?” User @katehurley7, on the other hand, imagining what she would have done if she were in Hugh’s position, said, “knowing whats in your own bag and watching this slowly unravel would have me wanting to burst into bats and exit immediately.”

User @theceolsigelynn, highlighting the embarrassment of having to narrate such an experience to airport officials, wrote, “the concept of going to customer service to say “only my socks and underwear came out?” User @ emilymjanse, pointing out how the situation is a weird bonding moment for siblings, stated, “Man, I feel like this is a sibling’s dream to witness, and then remind your bro of for the rest of his life. Haha.”

Some people were even discussing the viewpoints of the people putting the garment pieces on the conveyor belt. For instance, user @hickmeister wrote, “I’m crying was someone just placing them on the belt on the other end.” User @dmoneymaff, on the other hand is saying, “I’m picturing g the guy at the other end holding each one up and folding it before putting it on the belt.”

How likely is it for one to lose their luggage?

An article published by Skycop on July 29, 2024, notes that in 2024, a total of 33.4 million bags were mishandled at airports. The figures entail that in that year, 6.3 bags were mishandled per every 1000 passengers. The same piece also highlights that mishandled luggage can be divided into three categories: lost or stolen luggage, damaged luggage, and delayed luggage.

Delayed luggage is what contributes the largest amount to the pool of mishandled luggage. However, they have a decent resolution rate, with over 66% resolved within 48 hours. Among those, 25% were returned within 12 hours, 38% within 24 hours, and 37% within 48 hours.
