‘Football Is Ours’: Megyn Kelly Throws a Temper Tantrum Over an American Performing at the Super Bowl
It’s been a strange few weeks for Megyn Kelly.
Recently the conservative ragebaiter claimed Jeffery Epstein wasn’t that bad, leading to some deserved backlash. And it seems that seeing Bad Bunny’s joyful Super Bowl halftime show has sent her to a level of unhinged that’s normally reserved for doors that were illegally broken down by ICE agents.
While appearing on Piers Morgan Uncensored, the English host questioned Kelly’s anger at the Puerto Rican performing in Spanish during the biggest game in the NFL calendar. When he pointed out that the United States doesn’t actually have an official language with his trademark infuriating smirk, Kelly launched into a tirade about the UK having ‘lost their culture’ to a ‘bunch of radical Muslims.’
For those who were playing right-wing talking point bingo at home, it was a solid start, but nothing compared to what came next.
‘Football, that kind of football is ours. They call it American football. And the half time show and everything around it needs to stay quintessentially American. Not Spanish. Not Muslim. Not anything other than good old fashioned American apple pie. There should be meatloaf. Maybe some fried chicken…that’s what the Super Bowl should be.’
There have been many points over the last decade where it’s been hard to distinguish between parody and real life in right wing circles. After all, conservative culture has often had a hard time separating the two, as shown by the shocking numbers who believed The Colbert Report was a legitimate right-wing production.
And it’s fair to say MAGA has entered a stage of double-think that and false narratives that’s as alarming as it is fascinating. But even by those standards Kelly’s rant is something else. Whether or not she’ll go on a similarly passionate spiel about Trump’s dismantling of the American democratic project to enrich himself and his donors is yet to be seen.
